For some time now, the various messaging and social network platforms have been allowing their subscribers to download the data in their databases. A convenient feature, which allows anyone to retrieve their information and thus create a backup in case you want to leave the platform.
Facebook and Instagram, for example, provide tools with which you can download compressed files in which to find posts, images, comments, likes and messages exchanged with your friends or followers over time. Now also Telegram, the rival messaging app of WhatsApp, offers a similar functionality, which allows you to download chats, choosing the ones that interest us most and including photos, videos and various documents. All in all a simple operation, for which however it is necessary to use Telegram Desktop, the PC client available for the Windows, macOS and Linux platform.
How to export Telegram chats
After downloading and installing the client on your PC, you will need to log in with your account credentials and wait for the synchronization with the servers of the Russian company to be completed. At this point, click on the hamburger menu icon (the one with the three horizontal lines located in the upper left corner, above the chat column), then on Settings> Advanced> Export Telegram Data. Here you can choose all the elements to include in the compressed file: chats with real users, conversations with Telegram chatbots, groups and supergroups, photos, videos, documents and so on. If, on the other hand, you are interested in downloading a single conversation, you will have to enter it, click on the three dots at the top right and choose Export chat history.
