The Sims 4 has a lot of moving parts which can be quite intimidating for new players and veterans alike. Each new title adds or expands on existing mechanisms. To help new and old players acclimatize to The Sims 4, a tutorial is available right out of the door. However, he has a habit of refusing to work in certain areas, leaving players both confused and frustrated.
The first set of milestones
Going through the tutorial in The Sims 4 on the PlayStation 4 can be a bit of a pain. For the most part, it's pretty straightforward. However, there is a narrator who follows you, commenting on your progress and developing the various mechanics. Storytelling isn't the problem, however, is the fact that she doesn't always kick in when she's supposed to. This can put your tutorial in limbo.
If you're planning on completing the tutorial, here's a tip for the future: Anytime the narrator gives you free time to explore, save your game. The narrator will almost always comment on a completed tutorial task. If not, you can go back by uploading your savegame. You will still be at the tutorial step if you upload your savegame.
That said, the goal of the tutorial ultimately boils down to you completing a set of milestones based on your chosen aspiration. For the tutorial, the steps you complete are based on the basic mechanics of the game. The first set of milestones includes eating, starting a conversation with your roommate, interacting with an item in your inventory, and doing so. 'go to sleep for the night.
Eating is quite simple. Alex, your roommate, will prepare some food for you. It's up to you to pick up a plate by selecting it and choosing "Take a portion" from the radial menu. Then you can select Alex and choose “Get to know”. This already pushes back two milestones.
After you and Alex have finished eating, she will give you a gift. Open your inventory in the lower right corner and choose an item. It doesn't matter how you interact as long as you open your inventory. All you have to do is sleep.
It is in sleep that confusion begins. Trying to interact with your bed is a step. The sleep option is disabled for the tutorial. Which give? The tutorial wants you to play for a few hours, but who has that kind of time? What he doesn't specify is playing for a few hours in the game, not in real time. To progress further, you need to play until your Sim gets tired. If you want to speed up the process, move quickly through the day until you hear the narrator ring to rest.
The second set of milestones
After a good night's sleep, a new set of milestones is open to you. This bundle includes preparation for work, preparation of coffee, work and conversation with Alex.
Start by getting ready for work, which includes taking a shower, going to the bathroom, and brushing your teeth. You know, basic hygiene.
To make coffee, select the coffee maker on the counter and choose "Brew Coffee" from the radial menu. In case the last batch went wrong, you need to choose “Empty” first, then you can make your coffee. If you have time, speak with Alex to take another big step.
When it's time for work, your Sim automatically leaves, even if they're in the middle of a conversation or doing something. After your Sim leaves for work, you can control Alex. We encountered another issue during this part of the tutorial. Register your game before you do anything.
The narrator will ask you to consult the Simology panel. It reveals information about a Sim's age, traits, family tree, and more. This is a brief summary of this particular Sim. After opening the Simology panel, the Narrator is supposed to ring the bell and then give you some free time to play while your other Sim is at work. If not, reload your save.
The third set of milestones
When your Sim finally comes home from work, a new set of milestones are available. These include cleaning your house, improving a skill, earning a promotion, and working on a daily task. Try to take your time, otherwise the narrator will start again.
Cleaning your home is easy. Whenever you finish a meal or throw something away, you have the option of cleaning the dishes or removing the trash.
Improving a skill and completing your daily task almost always go hand in hand. Painters, for example, start with a paint job. Naturally, painting on an easel improves their skills and also pushes them to finish their daily task. For fashion designers, writing or talking about fashion will improve your skills. Opening the Career panel in the lower right corner will reveal specific details, including a performance indicator.
Obtaining a promotion is directly linked to your performance indicator. Slowly improve your skills, complete daily chores, and keep your Sim happy, but surely moves the needle to "Excellent." Once the little tick is lit, going to work will give you a much needed promotion and open the final set of milestones to complete. Register your game before winning a promotion.
The last set of milestones
The latest set of milestones includes stopping work, fishing, meeting new Sims, and traveling. Every step of this bundle can be accomplished while you travel, in addition to taking a day off.
First of all, take a vacation day. This is done by opening your phone located in the lower left corner. Use L1 and R1 to switch between applications. Choose the briefcase icon; it represents your career. Choose "Take Vacation". If the phone is off, reload your last save.
After a day off, it's time to take a walk in the park. Open your phone again and choose the car icon; it represents travel. Choose "Travel". You have the option of bringing Alex with you as you explore Magnolia Blossom.
Magnolia Blossom is a beautiful park where you can relax, meet new people and even spend an hour fishing. Doing so will eliminate the three remaining steps before telling you to go home. Select the Little House icon on your portrait in the lower left corner to return home once you have completed your final tasks.
After you return home, choose a new aspiration. It opens up a new set of milestones that you don't have to complete for the tutorial. To wrap up the tutorial, open Design Mode in the top right corner and browse a bit before you go. In doing so, the narrator will speak to you one last time and the tutorial will finally end. it's up to you whether you want to create a new Sim, continue playing with your current Sim, or start a whole new game.
