Although Sony has insisted that the PlayStation 5 represents a new generation, yesterday's PlayStation Showcase revealed that some of the new console's biggest hitters will also be on PS4. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is one of those titles that were previously thought to be PS5 exclusives, arriving on PS4 on the same day as the PS5 launch. With Guerrilla's Horizon Forbidden West release date more distant in 2021, will this open-world PS5 title still be available for the current PlayStation console?
The PlayStation Blog officially confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West will have a PlayStation 4 version. Guerrilla also relayed the same news on his Twitter account. This information was not present in the PlayStation Showcase video and was instead a footnote that watchers slowly noticed later in the day. Those who have invested in Aloy's story after playing Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 can continue on the same platform.
This sequel will still take advantage of the PS5's hardware features - the SSD will allow for faster load times, and the DualSense controller will deliver a unique experience that the PS4 won't. Still, PlayStation fans may fear that Horizon Forbidden West is “holding back” the game from a technical standpoint, as the game is still in development with both platforms in mind. Either way, that's good news for PS4 owners who may be hesitant to buy the PS5 for one reason or another.
Fortunately for these people, purchasing the PS4 version will give them a free upgrade to the PS5 version, should they end up buying a PS5 down the line. The digital version of Horizon Forbidden West will include a free upgrade, while the disc version will provide a free upgrade for owners of the PS5 disc player model.
Thank you for joining us yesterday during the # PlayStation5 event - and congratulations to all PlayStation Studios for their amazing showcases! Are you going to pre-order?
And in case you missed it: we're also bringing Horizon Forbidden West to PlayStation 4! ??
