While Ghost of Tsushima is set in a historical period in Japan, it also gently mixes myth and legend into the game. It manifests itself in a few interesting ways, as a way to change the weather, if you want to.
If you press the Options menu and then select the gear, you can scroll to the Flute option. Click on it and you will see that you know a song called "The Sun's Warm Embrace". Playing it will change the weather to sunny. There are four songs in total.
- The warm embrace of the sun
- Lament of the Storm
- Shadows in the fog
- A chorus of raindrops
You will start the game knowing a song, but you can learn more about Singing Crickets. To find singing crickets, you'll be close to looking for cemeteries that contain golden cages. If you can find enough singing crickets, you will be able to learn all the songs.
If you talk to a merchant, you'll get an outfit called Traveler's Outfit, and while you're wearing this, Singing Crickets can be displayed on the map, as long as you've already found one. You can press the right button of the D-pad and then select the wind for the undiscovered singing crickets.
To play the flute, you can swipe left on the touchpad of your PlayStation controller. There are various advantages to being able to change the weather, as you can always have the weather conditions in a state that suits you. If you're hunting enemies, a sunny day will allow better visibility, while if you're about to infiltrate a camp, fog will help cover your tracks.
