One thing that GreedFall is good enough to give you multiple ways to achieve your goals. While on a quest, you may find different ways to take a step. However, this can cause problems. A good example is any quest where you need to find a specific key. If you have a high enough Selection Lock skill, you can skip the step by selecting the lock and advancing the quest that way. The problem is, in doing so, you might think that the quest is stuck, because the quest stage doesn't advance past the point where it tells you to find the key.
GreedFall - How to Advance Your Quest Stages in Review
The good news is that the developers, Spiders, have put together a little system to help you deal with this problem. If you reach the point where you have advanced in a quest by completing any of the steps in a way that does not trigger the success settings for that step, such as finding a specific key, go to the quest in your journal and review the list of options at the bottom of the screen. A button asks you to press a button (this varies by platform and control method) to move to the next step in your log. This prompt is called “Edit Tracking”.
Sometimes you can feel like a quest is brewing, so just make sure you haven't gone through any of the stages in an unusual way without advancing the journal tracking, and if you have. , just use the prompt button to get the track to go to the current step.
This mechanism is fundamental. It is only when the tracker is on the correct stage that you get the proper in-game instructions to find the location of the next phase of the quest.
There are a few more important "Find All Items" quests in the game, and this can be very useful as well. It allows you to change the active quest stage to coincide with the play area you are currently in.
