The release date of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Edition Remastered is set for January 23, 2020. The game is coming soon to PS4 and Nintendo Switch, as well as a mobile edition for iOS and Android. There's no price to pay yet, but Square Enix has taken this game a step further since it launched in 2004, fifteen years ago. As it has maintained a strong and consistent fan base throughout the decade and a half, this project was to reward all those who love and still love this title, as well as to introduce it to new players.
The original game was developed by The Game Designers Studio and released in Japan by GameCube. It was of course a spin off of the awesome Final Fantasy game series, but this title was Nintendo's first, a decade after the 1994 Final Fantasy VI movie. So it's no surprise that Nintendo sought to do just that. relive it, as the fairytale aesthetic, immersive storytelling, and innovation brought to the RPG genre earned it accolades that still resonate today.
The Crystal Chronicles take place in a fantasy world in which there are four races. All of them are present in a caravan traveling from a village called Tipa. When the game starts, the player enters to control the caravan. A millennium earlier, a large crystal shattered after a meteorite, which also brought alien life form. These creatures were called Meteor Parasites and became the greatest threat for the next thousand years. As the player drives Tipa's caravan through the wilderness, he collects the fragments of this great shattered crystal to fight this threat and cross the land safely.
The trailer features visual improvements to the in-game graphics and textures, while the models remain the same, while preserving the old-fashioned feel. It's still unclear how far the gameplay will be tweaked or will there be any innovations at all, as hard-core fans naturally prefer not to be touched. However, one addition has been confirmed that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Edition Remastered for Switch, PS4, iOS and Android will be available with cross-platform playability, which makes online multiplayer play ideal for all of these platforms.
