How to unlock support runes
Support runes are special runes that can only be equipped 4th rune slot (purple). Support runes are exclusive to the Ancient Gods Part 1 DLC.
- After completing a Slayer Gate, you will be given the option to choose one of 3 Support Runes.
Support runes can be unlocked in any order, but you can only equip one at a time. This is basically a 4th rune slot - giving you one of three very useful powers.
How to get the first Rune + Slot support: The slot can be unlocked in the first level of the DLC. The Killers Gate is in the hallway of the Tentacle Passage - go to the gate and you will find the Killers Gate to your right.
- The Slayer Key is more advanced. Enter the next room (after meeting a tyrant) to the card room. Jump over the wall behind the map and use the posts to swing to a vent on the outer ledge.
Support the runes | What are they and which ones to choose
You can choose from 3 support runes. You can choose any of the runes in any order, but you can only have one equipped.
- Desperate punch: Blood Punch deals double damage when your health is 75 or less.
- resume: When a demon causes the activation of an extra life, it can be killed in a short time to regain extra life.
- Break Blast: Destroying a weak point generates a concussive explosion.
The three support runes are useful for different reasons. resume finally allows you to regain lost extra lives - and you will lose your extra lives during standard enemy encounters in this DLC. It is very, very difficult.
Desperate punch is one of the most useful. You'll often run out of HP, so a good, desperate punch can get you out of sticky spots. My problem is that I don't closely monitor when my Blood Punch has been restored. This makes that dual power situational, but if you're a heavy Blood Punch user, you might want to get it first.
Break Blast is my clear choice for the first preferred choice. Whenever you smash an enemy weak point, an explosion is generated that damages and stuns all nearby enemies. This includes the enemy with the weak point. It's incredibly useful for the rest of the DLC. You fight large hordes of enemies, so even ordinary low-level goons can be a problem when more than 10 of them clutter you up. And doing extra damage to anyone or anything is always important.
Break Blast is my top choice for Support Rune. But you can unlock all three by completing a Slayer Gate in all three levels. It's worth it. For the good player, they are all incredibly useful.
