Halo: Reach for Halo: The Master Chief Collection arrives December 3 for PC and Xbox One. Those who play on the PC should make sure they meet the recommended requirements for playing the game, but they aren't too steep and many should find themselves hitting the highest graphics settings for the title.
If you have a friend who is planning to get it for the Xbox One and you buy it for the PC, can you play together?
Unfortunately, the cross-play between the Xbox One version and the PC version of Halo: Reach will not happen. You won't be able to play with your friends if you choose the PC route and they already have everything on their Xbox One.
However, PC gamers can expect to interact with each other. For example, if you buy Halo: The Master Chief's Collection through the Microsoft Store, you can play with those who acquire it through Steam. Both versions play as if they were using the same launcher.
We don't know if cross-play between the Xbox One version and the PC version will happen in the future. Although, Halo: Reach does support cloud saves through the Xbox One and PC. You have the chance to play Halo: Achieve As you remember on your Xbox One, and if your friends want to switch to multiplayer on PC, you can go online and continue to progress on your PC using your profile.
Saving in the cloud picks up a few things, however. Campaign progress, mission and playlist completion, leaderboards, medals, achievements, and some aspects of customization are all available. If you stop halfway through a mission and try to track progress, you have to start over when you switch from PC to Xbox One. Cloud backup takes no control. You must first complete a mission before changing versions in order to keep all your progress.
You can pick up Halo: Reach Through Halo: The Master Chief's Collection for Xbox One and PC via Steam, the Microsoft Store, or you can pick it up if you have access to Xbox Game Pass Membership for PC. You must have an active subscription to install and play the game.
