Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time Multiplayer - Modes, Features & Characters

As if Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time doesn't already have enough replayability, various multiplayer modes, collectively called Bandicoot Battle, have been revealed for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One title. Although considered a platform game, the modes make this episode a quality board game.

features

When we say party we mean a relatively small one - with each of the game modes allowing up to four users to play. For now, multiplayer modes are for local use only, as no mention has yet been made of the online play feature.

There will be leaderboards that keep track of who dominates within your party, but unfortunately the stats will disappear after each session.

Bandicoot Battle will feature two competitive game modes - each allowing a maximum of four players and focusing primarily on speed. There may be more to come in the future, but here's what we expect from the base game.

  • Checkpoint race: Instead of running to complete entire levels, users will take turns trying to beat the time their opponents took to get to checkpoints. So you won't be running at the same time, but players will notice other people's ghosts to see how far ahead or behind the competition.
  • Combo box: This mode is quite similar, but the winner is decided based on the number of points each character earns by breaking crates. If they are hit in time, a point modifier is granted and may remain as long as the player does not slow down.

In addition, a cooperative mode is included, aptly named Pass N. Play. In this mode, four local users will participate in the single player campaign together, but each will have to relinquish the controller once they die. Even though there are over 100 standard levels, Pass N. Play is also accessible in N. Verted stages in game mirror mode.

Characters

The good news is that there are technically two new characters included in this episode. We are technically saying that Fake Crash and Fake CoCo are accessible in Bandicoot Battle, but unfortunately are not in single player or Pass N. Play mode. If these fakes are too off-putting, regular Crash and CoCo are also available for competitive play.

In the reveal images, it looks like character skins can be applied in these modes, which is a good idea considering the number of skins to equip.
