Description

ARTE TV gives you access to ARTE and ARTE Concert programs: series, films, documentaries, reports, concerts, etc. The offer is dense but the interface allows you to quickly find what you are looking for.

Programs that you can watch live or in replay (for some), for 7 to 90 days after its broadcast on TV. The application also provides you with a wealth of information relating to upcoming programs.

The application also allows you to download videos to watch them offline or abroad. Note, some videos are geolocated and accessible only in our country and in Germany.

In theory, watching ARTE live is only possible from our country and Germany. The ARTE TV application is available for Android and iPhone / iPad.

Why use ARTE.TV?

The Franco-German channel Arte offers you its own video viewing platform. You will, of course, have access to direct ARTE and ARTE Concert, but also to all replay content (from 7 to 90 days). Arte TV also offers you access to the channel's future programming so that you do not miss any program. Special case: you also have access to the day's programs even before their broadcast if you wish (from 5 am).

To use Arte TV you have the possibility of creating a free account (optional). Thanks to this account, you will be able to access content from all your screens and resume watching where you left off, even if you change device. If you do not create an account you will still be able to play the available videos. Note that the account also allows you to create a favorites list that will sync across all of your devices. You can also create reminders so you don't miss any of your favorite shows.

The list of videos can be sorted by categories or by number of views. Videos can be downloaded for offline viewing for up to 72 hours. A large number of program categories are available on this cultural channel: News and Society, Cinema, Series and Fiction (including original programs), Culture and Pop, Concerts, Science, Travel and Discovery and, finally, History.

On ARTE TV, the editorial team creates thematic playlists (playlists) so that you can discover new programs. These lists include both channel programs and specific web programs. You can, like with videos, bookmark them and watch them on all your devices.

As far as the interface is concerned, it is very close to what the competition can do, the programs being presented by categories online. When you select a program, you display its description on the screen. The screen contains a header with a photo of the program, then a short summary. Below you find the seasons (in horizontal bands) and episodes (if applicable) in order to choose the one you want to watch.

When you click a thumbnail to watch a video the viewing screen displays. It contains the video, but also the period during which it is accessible, a summary of the episode (or film), the list of actors, direct links to other episodes if applicable, then a selection of similar content. . Note that you have the possibility to choose the bitrate via the quality of the video (from 216 to 720p) which is useful if your connection is not very good. If you are on the ARTE TV mobile application, this is also where you will find the download button which will allow you to retrieve the video file to watch it offline.

For the protection of the youngest, when you launch a video which could shock them, a message is displayed on the screen. You can thus interrupt the viewing before the launch and without going to the scenes concerned. To start the video, you will then have to click on Continue.

During our tests, no advertising was triggered when the videos were launched on the mobile application, on the other hand on the online service from the internet browser a spot was launched. However, it is an inactive spot and you can easily change windows and go about your business while this spot is scrolling (unlike MyTF1 or 6play).

What are the new features of the latest version of ARTE.TV?

Since October 2021 ARTE TV has decided to face competition in terms of free (MyTF1, 6play, our country.tv) and paid (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video) streaming offers. Its objective is to gain an audience, in particular by uploading series accessible from the Arte TV interface (on mobile devices, computers, etc.), free of charge and without any advertising. It is a catalog containing the cult, the rare and the unpublished. These series are not intended to be broadcast on the Arte channel, but only to be streamed via ARTE TV.
