Zombie Army 4: Dead War, the title developed by Rebellion, will make its macabre debut on PlayStation 4, Xbox One e PC starting from Tuesday 4 February 2020: let's discover all its secrets with this review! Are you ready to fight Hitler and his zombie hordes again?
Zombie Army 4: Dead War review - The return of the Nazi hordes
Zombie Army 4: Dead War is set in 1946: Europe is now destroyed due to the devastating Plan Z implemented by Hitler. The Fuhrer the year before had in fact ordered the execution of this plan which provided for the resurrection of all fallen soldiers of the Wehrmacht as zombies.
In this new chapter we will take on the role of a group of heroes in search of Hitler. Unfortunately, they don't know that his zombie hordes are back more aggressive than ever. Our aim will be to save humanity from this zombie apocalypse.
Numerous enemies of all types and sizes will be ready to put a spoke in the wheel then load the rifles and get ready to blow his brains out. Of course, always calmly and gracefully.
Single, horde and multiplayer campaign
Once we get to the main screen, we will be able to choose which mode to start with. The title presents us with three different options: single campaign, with a story to follow, horde mode e Multiplayer. Honestly, there is no way to start sooner or later, you can do as you see fit.
My advice though, if you are new e you have never tried a title of Zombie Army, is to start with the campaign mode. This is because at the beginning we will be shown a small tutorial in which they will explain which keys to use, how to play: in short, the basics.
For the campaign and horde mode, we can choose one of the three difficulties that the game offers us: easy, medium, difficult. The difference between the three difficulties is felt but with a little training you can go from the easiest to the most difficult without too many problems.
At the beginning of each mode, after choosing the difficulty, we will have to choose with which character to play e which weapons to use. We will have three available: sniper rifle, shotgun or submachine gun and finally a pistol. Also we will have a melee weapon, knife or machete.
During the single campaign we will be able to unlock numerous upgrades which will allow us to modify our weapons, to the point of obtaining real tools of death.
As for the characters, we will have to choose them one of the four available (There will be two more in addition, but we will have to download). Each character has personal characteristics, positive and negative: one is stronger in hand-to-hand encounters but has a half life regeneration time, another is faster in escaping but weaker to bullets etc.
Finally, after choosing the character, we can activate some ability which will unlock over the course of the stories. It is about defense skills, attack o General: depending on our preferences we can decide which ones are right for us.
For example, there is the “Last Hope” skill that allows us to regain life by shooting a zombie when we are in the balance towards death.

Horde and multiplayer modes: fun is guaranteed
If for the campaign mode we have to complete missions in pre-established scenarios, the horde and multiplayer modes are more chaotic but fun. Here we will in fact have the opportunity to play single or a cooperative (a maximum of four players) in a chosen map and start the pure fun.
One of the main peculiarities of the horde mode, for example, is that the longer you resist to the enemy attack, the more the map gets bigger, thus unlocking new areas that we can explore. This element will make our gaming experience difficult but extremely fun, I can assure you.
But be careful because, despite the fun, it will not be an easy experience.
In multiplayer mode, however, our aim will be to fight alongside our comrades and, of course, to blow up some brains. During this mode, our skills will be tested: we will find numerous beings on our path and we will also have to keep an eye on our companions, defending them in case they find themselves in difficulty.
Despite the difficulties, in both modes the fun is guaranteed as we will have to face dozens of zombies and the game experience created by Rebellion is truly exciting.
Weapons, grenades and the X-Ray Kill Cam
During the various modes, we will have the possibility to change weapons in safe-places and in each war zone, we will find one or more boxes that will allow us to reload ammunition. The positive side is that they are infinite, you can reload a weapon from the same chest over and over again.
Also there will be smaller speakers where we will find throwing grenades and fragmentation, which if thrown and placed tactically, will blow up your legs, brains and arms.
The only downside I found is that to open the grenade cases we have to hold down the X key while, to get them, we must click it stop. At first this aspect sent me into confusion several times, forcing me not to take them because I was surrounded by zombies.
Once you understand the mechanism, however, everything will be simpler.
An extremely fun and very well done element is the X-Ray Kill Cam. Whenever we will put to score a particular shot, which can be considered exceptional, the game will reward us with a sequence totally full of style.
The bullet will in fact be shown in mode slow-motion while it will penetrate the body part of the zombie that we hit: all in X-ray mode. Whether it's a shot to the brain, to the kneecap or to lower parts, this mode will make us feel like born snipers.
Environment, graphics and enemies
The environment, in addition to ammunition, will be our main ally. During the game we will find war zones with objects that will allow us to facilitate our game experience: gas cylinders to detonate, towers that attract zombies and then they explode or towers that electrify the ground, killing enemies.
We will also find some large chests, from time to time, with gods timed boosters for our weapons. Use them sparingly and carefully because they could save you from complicated situations.
One of the main elements that catches the eye is certainly the graphics. The settings enclose a macabre and dark atmosphere, which transmits a sense of anguish and anxiety from the first minutes of the game. They are also very faithful to reality, it will seem to us to have landed in Milan, Sardinia or Venice, with some nice zombie gondoliers.
Another point in favor goes to the realization of the enemies. Each of them possesses particular characteristics, meticulous attention to detail and almost manic and, moreover, there is not a zombie that does not convey restlessness.
They've been crafted so well, they feel real. In addition, the yellow eyes, wrapped in the darkness of decayed bodies, increase the gloomy atmosphere even more.
Zombie Army 4: Dead War review - let's sum it up
How to conclude this Zombie Army 4: Dead War review? We can emphasize that the title looks like a ottimo prodotto, probably one of the best of this 2020, suitable for all those who love zombies and kill them as if there was no tomorrow.
La graphics are outstanding and is characterized by characters and enemies who touch reality. The atmosphere is varied: you can hear it the horror of war and the consequences it brings, mixed with a pungent zombie smell. It is a trashy title but in the best sense of the word: in short, Hitler who brings the Nazis to life to conquer Europe? Very funny as a concept but divinely realized.
The only negative points are excessive slowness of the characters in reloading their weapons e the strange movement of the zombies: the first could put us in serious difficulty if we were to find ourselves completely surrounded by zombies who want to eat us.
The second, on the other hand, can be annoying since the movement of the zombies is unpredictable: they stagger and this means that, at times, the shots may not go to target precisely for this reason. Finally, I also found it difficult to find kid doctors (in addition to that we will be able to transport them only one, which is bad).
Despite these small flaws, Rebellion has created a product that can please almost any type of player, making the game experience creepy but at the same time fun and special.
