Microsoft is currently working with many smart TV manufacturers to offer an Xbox Game Pass app. Via xCloud technology, users will be able to play directly on their TV. In fact, you no longer need an Xbox, a controller is enough and voila! A feature that will open the Game Pass to as many people as possible.
Microsoft has never hidden its ambitions with the Xbox Game Pass, namely to make it the “Netflix of video games”. First, the American giant has filled the service's game library with the arrival of the EA Play catalog, and of course Bethesda games with the historic takeover of Zenimax Media for the tidy sum of 7,5 billion dollars.
Now, Microsoft has decided to take the next step by offering an Xbox Game Pass application on Smart TVs. To do this, the manufacturer will rely on its xCloud cloud gaming system. So all you need is a solid Internet connection and a controller to play. No more need for a PC or an Xbox console!
“We are working with TV manufacturers around the world to bring the Game Pass experience directly into smart TVs, so you only need a controller to play!” Says Liz Hamren, Head of Experiences and gaming platforms at Microsoft, during the pre-E3 briefing of the American giant.
An Xbox TV stick also in preparation
In addition to this app developed for Smart TVs, the Redmond firm is also working on a kind of Chromecast, to directly stream your Xbox Game Pass experience to any screen. “We're also developing stand-alone streaming devices that you can plug into a TV or screen, so if you have a good internet connection, you can stream your Xbox experience,” adds the vice president of Microsoft.
For now, we unfortunately do not have more details concerning the list of manufacturers concerned and the launch date of the TV application and the Xbox TV stick from Microsoft. There is little chance of having more information on this subject during Microsoft's E3 2021 conference this Sunday, June 13. Indeed, the manufacturer will mainly focus its presentation on the new Bethesda games to come.
Either way, the upcoming arrival of this Xbox Game Pass app for Smart TVs is great news for users who don't necessarily want to invest in a PC or Xbox Series X or Series S to enjoy the joys of the game. Microsoft's gaming service.
