Description

Windows 10 Pro displays all the features of the Windows 10 Home license but the OS is also enriched with a whole range of features intended for professional use.

It is an operating system contains business oriented tools. You can download it as an ISO file (content for a CD or DVD, or even on a USB key) which will allow you to install it. The download is done directly on the Microsoft site. You can also use Windows 10 Media Creation Tool if you are on an older version of the operating system. Installation is simple thanks to a specific wizard which guides you as it progresses.

Why use Windows 10 Pro?

Windows 10 Pro is the professional (licensed) version of Microsoft's operating system. It embeds the same characteristics of the Family version and adds others more geared towards professionals.

So you will benefit from the quick start, the management of applications in the form of tiles via the main menu (start menu), the management of 4K and DirectX 12 graphics (with suitable hardware). It can therefore read any type of media easily (with suitable equipment). All types of peripherals are supported (including different USBs), and the interface handles multiscreen very well. Of course you will have access to Microsoft Update which will take care of downloading and installing all updates.

The OS also integrates by default a whole series of essential applications such as Microsoft Edge for browsing the Web, Windows Ink (for users of a touch screen), Paint 3D (image or photo), Remix 3D (video ), Photos, and especially Cortana, Microsoft's personal assistant. You will also have access to the Windows Store to download new applications. Windows File Explorer is always present allowing you to browse your files and folders. In addition, the system allows a perfect integration of Microsoft 365 (ex Office).

So much for the features in common with the Family edition, to which we can add the possibility of creating several users. To go further, let's see the specifics of the Pro edition.

In terms of security, Windows 10 Pro incorporates different protections and a firewall: BitLocker (to protect your files), Windows Defender Antivirus, etc., which will prevent you from installing third-party software and help you defend your computer against external threats. In case of concern, the OS includes direct access to the Microsoft support center.

In order to facilitate teleworking, Windows 10 Pro integrates a remote desktop functionality. This allows you to access your workstation virtually from anywhere (provided both PCs are connected to the internet). Likewise, it allows you to do without third-party software to do so. You will also be able to use the Azure Active Directory cloud platform. This platform will allow you to work with your collaborators even remotely. It provides access to Microsoft's corporate identity service with a username and multi-factor authentication to secure access.

This version facilitates and optimizes the creation of virtual machines to save space, remote connection, work on different applications simultaneously on the same screen, project or company management, etc.

Note also a very practical option, it is the deferred update: it is you who choose when and how your machine is updated. This allows in particular to avoid being disturbed in the middle of his work to restart the PC so that the updates finish installing.

What's new in the latest version of Windows 10 Pro?

Windows revolutionizes the Windows series. Its interface is indeed compatible with touch screens. So you will find Windows 10 not only on stationary PCs and laptops, but also on 2-in-1 computers which include a touch screen that turns them into a tablet.

Although there are no more major features to discover on Windows 10 since the arrival of Windows 11, however, Microsoft continues to roll out security updates and improvements for Windows 10, such as the new version 21H2 deployed in November 2021 and which allows the system to improve its security by supporting the WPA3 H2E standard for wifi connections.

Which OS is Windows 10 Pro compatible with?

Windows 10 Pro is already an OS, it can be installed either on a blank PC, or on a computer with an old version of Windows (in update), or on a PC with another OS in dual-boot. This last point makes it possible to install two operating systems on the same computer and to choose at startup with which one wishes to work.

It is available in 32 or 64 bits.

The requirements for correct operation are: minimum 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM for 32 bits and 2 GB for 64 bits. For graphics we recommend a DirectX 9 processor, screen resolution starts at 800x600.

What are the best alternatives to Windows 10 Pro?

In terms of Windows versions, there are several depending on your needs, they are to be chosen when installing the software (click on the license choice drop-down list). All are available in French.

If you have an old version of Windows and want to switch to Windows 10, for installation we recommend that you download Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (a good internet connection is recommended). This software will allow you either to make an upgrade directly if you are under Windows 7 or 8, or to download completely Windows 10 (in ISO file on a CD, a DVD, or a USB key) to install it from a disc blank if you are using an earlier version (remember to make backups of your files and folders). Note that a compatible license is required to use Windows 10 (a key is provided with purchase, to be specified during installation). The tool allows the installation of 32 or 64 bits version (select the version in the list).

Do you want to change your OS to go to new horizons? In this case you can download a Linux distribution (free and Open Source, available in 32 or 64 bits, and in French): Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint, and many others! The advantage: you will find an operating system there that works a bit like Windows, in particular thanks to the use of windows and a main menu (like the start menu). The visuals can be modified by changing the desktop environment: KDE, Gnome, etc. And this is also a big difference with Windows: you can completely configure the system interface. Linux is very secure and, in particular, you will not need an antivirus with this type of OS. You can also create multiple users.

Linux distributions run on any computer, you can either install the system (including dual-boot: that is to say two OS on the same computer), or use a "live-CD" (in ISO file on CD, DVD or USB key) which allows testing without installing. The only possible downside to using a Linux system is software compatibility. Indeed you will not be able, for example, to install Microsoft 365 (ex Office), but you will be able to install LibreOffice (for example) to replace it, or to access online services! For gamers, few games are ported to Linux, but the Steam application does, and more and more games are available for Linux.
