WhatsApp will soon no longer work on iPhones running iOS 9. According to the latest beta version uploaded, the instant messaging application is about to abandon support for this old interface. It is not a surprise. Every year, WhatsApp stops working on a list of older devices.
Digging through the beta code for WhatsApp on iOS, WABetainfo, a dedicated messaging website, discovered that iOS 9 was no longer supported. According to the specialized media, the stable version should quickly follow in the footsteps of the beta, leaving aside all the iPhone stuck under iOS 9.
To use WhatsApp on iPhone, you will need at least the iOS 10 update, a version of the interface deployed at the end of 2016. If WhatsApp is already installed on your phone, you can continue to use it as before. However, some features may not work properly over time.

The list of iPhones, iPads and iPods soon to be deprived of WhatsApp
Concretely, the abandonment of the update iOS 9 will leave aside several Apple devices. These devices could not install iOS 10 when it arrived in fall 2016. They are therefore obsolete in the eyes of WhatsApp:
- iPhone 4s
- iPad 2 and 3
- iPad mini 1
- iPod touch 5G
If you are still using an iPhone 5 / 5c / 5s, iPhone 6 (Plus) or iPhone 6s (Plus) running iOS 9, we recommend that you quickly install the most recent update. Note that WhatsApp has still not updated its FAQ for compatible devices. The messaging only specifies: “for an optimal experience, we recommend that you use the most recent version of iOS available for your phone. Please visit the Apple support site for more information on updating your iPhone software ”.
It is possible that this change will not in force only at the beginning of 2022. Indeed, WhatsApp has made a habit of abandoning support for older smartphones every January 1. This year, WhatsApp has thus ceased to function optimally on iPhones running a version prior to iOS 9 and smartphones stuck on Android 4.0.2 (or a previous version).
WhatsApp Messenger beta 2.21.50 drops the support for iOS 9.
