In case you don't know, Google saves your location history in the Google Maps app. Well, technically it saves it as part of your Google account, but the location history settings are also available through Google Maps and are part of the app itself. That said, if you're wondering how to view your location history in Google Maps, you've come to the right place. We'll show you how to do this in this article, in case you're curious, or if you want to delete or disable it for future tracking. We will walk you through one step at a time, so it will be immensely easy for you to do. We will also use some images to help you along the process.
How to view your location history via the Google Maps app
The first thing you need to do is open the Google Maps app. If it's on the home screen, open it, if not, open the app drawer by swiping up and locate the "Maps" or "Google Maps" icon, depending on your device (Android or iOS)
Once you open the app, you will see your location on a map. You need to tap your profile icon in the top right corner, and the menu will appear.
Once the floating menu opens, you will see a number of options. We are interested in the menu "Your data in Maps“, Which you will notice above the“ Settings ”option, scrolling down.
Check where you've been and edit or delete your saved locations
In the following menu, you will see your “Home” and “Work” locations, along with “Google-wide controls”. In that section, you will notice the "Location History" options. My location history is disabled, as you can see, or "Paused", as Google likes to call it. In that section, you will also see the “View and delete activity” option, which will give you much more information about your location history and allow you to delete it. Then tap on it if you want to know more.
As you can see, in this menu you can set the “Delete automatically” option for your location history and also see and delete the past activity under the “Manage activity” option.
This is pretty much all. Managing location history from Google Maps is no problem at all. Please note that my location history is paused mainly due to battery life issues. There was a bug about a year or two ago that affected battery life due to this, so I disabled it and never decided to restore this feature.
