Uninstall other versions
The previous methods are for everyone.
1. Stop or quit the program in the "Systray" (the Taskbar at the bottom right of your screen). The "Systray" icons representing the applications running in the background on your machine, you must have an icon with "Norton": you must "right click" on the icon => quit
2. Stop and disable Norton Antivirus services in Services
(Start menu => run: services.msc - be careful there are several services)
to find Norton antivirus services, you can find out about them through the tool: msconfig
See the usage of msconfig here:
http://www.zebulon.com/articles/msconfig.php
You will know the services, by going to the "services" tab => Do not show Windows services
once you have the list, you come back to the 'services.msc tool
See how it works here:
https://www.zebulon.com/dossiers/windows/31-services.html
the list of services to deactivate should be this:
- SAVScan
- Norton Unerase Protection
- Symantec Event Manager
- Symantec Network Drivers Service
- Symantec Network roxy
- Symantec Password Validation Service
- Norton AntiVirus Auto Protect Service
- Symantec Setting Manager
- ScriptBlocking Service
- SymWMI Service
and you stop every Norton service, then you turn them all off.
3.Check and kill the processes in the Task Manager (press the 3 keys at the same time: CTRL + ALT + DEL) on your keyboard
See how the Task Manager works:
http://www.zebulon.com/articles/gestionnaire_taches.php
the processes to be terminated are:
- SAVScan.exe
- ccSetMgr.exe
- SNDSrvc.exe
- SPBBCSvc.exe
- SBServ.exe
- ccEvtMgr.exe
- navapsvc.exe
- NPFMntor.exe
- symlcsvc.exe
- ccApp.exe
- ccProxy.exe
- ccPwdSvc.exe
- ccSetMgr.exe
- SymWSC.exe
They may not all be active on your machine, it all depends on the version installed.
4. Delete the entries in MSCONFIG
Open the "Start" menu> run: msconfig => delete the entries in the "start" tab
delete all of the Norton entries, they look something like this:
[ccApp] "C:Program FilesFichiers communsSymantec SharedccApp.exe"
[Symantec NetDriver Monitor] C:PROGRA~1SYMNET~1SNDMon.exe
Once you have done this, shut down your computer to take into account the changes in services and startup options.
Once all these operations have been carried out, you restart your machine.
5. Uninstall Norton suite software.
This operation can only be done if you have “administrator” powers of the machine.
Then go to the "Start menu" >>>> Control Panel = >>> Add / Remove programs,
Find: Norton antivirus => and click on "Modify" => then a window opens, it is now that you click on => "uninstall".
The computer will ask to restart to do the housework, let him do it.
Then, repeat the same operation for the other Symantec programs
which are called: Live Reg and Live Updates
6. Delete the leftovers on the hard drive
Norton and Symantec leave lots of traces on your hard drive, you have to finish cleaning by hand,
So, open the explorer, go to the tree structure of hard drive C:
and look for:
- C:Program FilesSymantec
- C:Program FilesNorton
- C:Program FilesFichiers communsSymantec
- C:Documents And SettingsVotre compteApplication DataSymantec
- C: Documents And SettingsAll UsersApplication DataSymantec
- C:Documents And SettingsAdministrateurApplication DataSymantec
and right click on each folder => Delete
Normally, at this point, the Norton suite is successfully uninstalled.
