Intel announced the family of XNUMXth generation processors for desktop PC. The new components were designed to have unprecedented performance, and the spearhead of this new generation is poised to become the fastest gaming processor on the market.
The new XNUMXth generation Intel processors are what you've always wanted
The new processors have been announced Intel XNUMXth generation, with a clock frequency that reaches 5.3Ghz. The company has decided to focus all the work on increasing the clock frequency and consequently the performance. The games and most of the programs continue to be optimized for high frequency core processors, a higher frequency therefore allows a 'smoother and latency-free gaming experience.
What is the clock frequency?
Each component that processes data operates at a certain speed, which indicates how much data it can handle in a second. This speed is called the clock frequency, and is usually measured in Ghz.
The best overclocking experience
Intel has focused on the improve the overclocking experience for the new processor family. As we have already explained above, overclocking means increase the clock frequency with which a component is marketed, to increase performance accordingly.
With the new processors it will be possible to enable or disable the tecnologia HyperThreading, proprietary to Intel, for each individual core. This technology "interprets" a single core as if it were double, allowing to distribute a process (thread) on two logical units and therefore increasing performance. Furthermore, the management of the frequency and voltage curves of the processor has been improved, in order to always have everything under control.
Again with regard to the improvements in the field of overclocking, the processors of the K series - therefore overclockable - will have the advantage of a 'revised thermal interface. Silicon layers have been removed, improving the thickness of the CPU and therefore increasing heat dissipation.
The new technology Turno Boost Max Technology 3.0, available for the i9 and i7 processor families, allows you to further increase the frequencies involved. The processors, in particular, will be equipped with three different features that will increase the clock frequency:
- Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0: which increases the clock frequency per single core up to 5.1Ghz for the top-of-the-range processor.
- Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0: it understands through complex algorithms which are the most performing cores of the cpu and decides whether to increase the frequency. Bring the top of the range to 5.2Ghz.
- Intel Thermal Velocity Boost: a further increase in performance, which through an artificial intelligence decides when and whether to increase the clock frequency. It allows to reach an incredible frequency of 5.3Ghz.
The new top-of-the-range Intel Core i9-10900K processor
Intel presented the new top processor of the tenth generation, claiming to be the fastest gaming processor in the world. As previously stated, theIntel Core i9-10900K it is overclockable to a maximum frequency of 5.3Ghz, and is composed of 10 cores and 20 threads. It boasts all the benefits related to the tenth generation listed above, such as overclocking tools, but also support for Ram DDR4 a 2933Mhz, support for wi-fi 6 connectivity through an Intel module and 2.5G ethernet.
What are cores and threads?
Each CPU has a number of cores that can vary. The cores are complete processing units, which work simultaneously, processing data. In practice, the cores are almost distinct CPUs, coordinated with each other, mounted within the same circuit. Threads, on the other hand, are the number of individual application processes that can run simultaneously on the CPU itself.
Internal Intel tests have been carried out comparing the processor with the previous top of the range i9-9900K and with an i7-7700k, considering that a gaming PC is updated on average every 3 years. Using the most popular games of the moment as a test, large differences in performance emerged.
Collaboration with developers
Intel also works closely with game developers to fully understand how to improve their processors and how developers can take full advantage of their performance. An example is Dynasty Mode, a new mode of Total War: THREE KINGDOMS, developed in collaboration with Intel, which thanks to a great work has allowed to increase the number of soldiers present in each frame.
Even in the third person shooter video game Remnant: From the Ashes there has been a lot of work to allow the artificial intelligence of Intel processors to reduce some artifacts and improve the gaming experience.
All new range of Intel processors
La tenth generation of processors for Intel desktop PCs covers all needs. In addition to the aforementioned i9-10900K, the version without the possibility of overclocking and the one without integrated graphics card is available.
Going down slightly, we find the processors i7-10700, also available in overclockable or non-overclockable variants, with and without integrated graphics. These processors are not equipped with Intel Thermal Velocity Boost, but are equipped with other technologies that allow to reach a frequency of 5.1Ghz. They also have well 8 core e 16 thread.
I5 processors are made up of templates 15-10600, i5-10500 e i5-10400. Only the former is also available with overclocking, but all use the technology Turbo Boost 2.0 for a performance boost.
As for the i3 range, three models from 4 cores and 8 threads, also with support for the Turbo Boost 2.0 bringing the clock frequency up to 4.6Ghz. To complete the tenth generation, then, we find the new ones Pentium Gold and Celeron, with a base frequency up to 4.2Ghz and equipped with 2 cores and 4 threads.
The developers who have had the opportunity to preview the tenth generation of Intel processors and to work closely with the brand, have expressed only opinioni positive.
Availability
Intel's new processors will be available starting in May 2020. It may therefore be the right time to upgrade your gaming PC or workstation.
