POCO X4 Pro is POCO's new mid-budget smartphone, equipped with excellent autonomy combined with fast charging, a processor Snapdragon 695 and a particular design, with an imposing photographic module that certainly does not go unnoticed. Let's find out together if this POCO X4 Pro 5G it is a best buy in our review.
The POCO X4 Pro 5G review
The smartphone really is solid and massive and is held well in the hand, thanks to the square shapes, the very angular edges and the flat and not at all slippery back. The side shell is made of plastic and the back is an unknown, it is in fact a material that conveys the feeling of glass even though it is not, with a very high build quality and a set of particular reflections that give originality to the whole (beware of fingerprints, however: the smartphone holds a lot of them).
Impossible not to notice the block dedicated to the photographic department, which protrudes a lot and occupies almost the entire width of the body, with the main camera protruding in turn and causing that instability - annoying for some - when the phone is placed on the table.
This POCO X4 Pro 5G is massive also thanks to its not exactly contained dimensions - 164.2 x 76.1 x 8.12 mm - and the weight of 205 grams, despite being well distributed. The smartphone is available in three different colors: Laser Black, POCO Yellow - characteristic color of the brand - e Laser Blue.
The display is one of the highlights of the POCO X4 Pro 5G
One of the strong points of this smartphone is definitely the , a panel AMOLED from 6.67 inches equipped with resolution FullHD +, then 1080 x 2400 pixels. The panel is really bright, with a peak of 1200 units, it is also equipped with brilliant colors and excellent blacks. The refresh rate is 120Hz, but you can set it to 60Hz to further increase battery life. In general, the display is excellent and will convince you already at the first start. The side bezels are really small and the only break on the panel is the small round hole that houses the front camera.
In addition to the display and the photographic module, they complete the aesthetics in the lower part USB-C port is preferably used for fast charging at 67W, a loudspeaker, a microphone and the trolley for the two nano SIM (You can fill the second SIM slot with one microSD); in the upper part we find another microphone, a second speaker for stereo audio, the survivor audio jack for headphones and a very useful infrared sensor to control devices such as TVs. The left side is smooth, devoid of buttons, while the right side houses the volume rocker and the on / off key which includes a fingerprint sensor really very performing and responsive.
The smartphone is also provided with certification IP53, therefore it means that it is protected against dust and water splashes.
What we find under the body
To power the whole we find a processor Snapdragon 695 5G octa core and one Adreno GPU 619 combined with 6 or 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM memory. The internal memory is instead of 128 or 256GB, expandable via microSD card as anticipated.
The processor, dedicated to mid-range smartphones, is built using the 6nm production process that it allows excellent energy efficiency and makes the POCO X4 Pro 5G a true master of autonomy. 6nm coupled with a 5000mAh battery make it practically unable to download this smartphone during the usual stressful day that includes at least 5-6 hours of active screen, calls, use of social networks, Google Maps and a few minutes of gaming.
Battery aside, the performance of the smartphone is average: the responsiveness of a top of the range was certainly not expected, however there is some hesitation in opening some apps and some too much lag during use. Obviously this does not preclude usability, but other smartphones placed in the same price range behave more fluidly.
As for connectivity, we have support for the 5G, Wi-Fi ac dual band, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and the infrared sensor.
The smartphone runs on MIUI 13 (to be precise 13.0.3), based - unfortunately - on Android 11 and not on the latest version available. By now we know this interface well, it is fluid and allows some customization such as the use of gestures instead of on-screen keys, dark mode, gaming mode and the ability to install themes to further customize the smartphone interface. Impossible not to notice, reluctantly, the large number of pre-installed applications: when turned on, for example, 8 games were already present.
Poco X4 Pro 5G review: how it shoots
The particular photographic module contains three sensors: a main one from 108MP f / 1.9, an ultra-wide 8MP f / 2.2 118 ° and a 2MP macro sensor. Leaving aside the useless 2MP macro sensor, the photos surprised us in a positive sense, always considering that it is a smartphone placed in a price range that does not exceed 350 euros.
In ideal light conditions the smartphone gives its best, producing really good shots, detailed and color balanced. Even during the darkest hours, thanks to the night mode, you can take respectable photos. The wide angle is discreet, with a lower quality than the main camera, but very useful in situations where it is necessary to take advantage of the 118 ° it is equipped with.
The front camera, placed in the hole inside the display, is 16MP f / 2.4 and it is average, especially with ideal light conditions. It starts to suffer, of course, when taking selfies in darker environments. Finally this POCO X4 Pro 5G is capable of record video in full HD resolution at 30fps: they are not very stabilized, therefore a little flickering, and the quality is not the best.

Poco X4 Pro 5G review: buy it or not
Overall we liked this Poco X4 Pro 5G: autonomy is its strong point together with the quality of the display, which continues to amaze after days of use. The flaws, however, are there and one of them is theexcessive hesitation of the Snapdragon 695 processor in various situations. Added to this is the presence of the MIUI 13 based on Android 11, therefore not the latest version available.
The smartphone is officially sold to 299 € for the version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal space e 349 euro for the version 8/256 instead. We suggest the 6 / 128GB model, given that there is memory expansion and the 2GB of additional RAM do not radically change the experience of use, but we do not feel we can consider this POCO X4 Pro 5G a best buy of 2022. The good news is that most likely it is. smartphone will soon find itself at a lower cost, approaching the promotional launch price of 249 euros, making it a real best buy.
