Huawei X Gentle Monster II is, as the name suggests, the second generation of smart glasses made by Huawei in collaboration with Gentle Monster. Don't be fooled by the definition. Here the "intelligent" part has nothing to do with displays, applications, augmented reality and functionality related to vision through these glasses. The technological components are in fact designed for listening to music and managing phone calls. To find out how they behave we wore them for a few weeks - weather permitting - and now we are ready to tell you everything you need to know about this product in our review.

There is no single model of the Gentle Monster II. In fact they are well four variants provided by Huawei: two - the Myma we tested and the Lang - are sunglasses, while the remaining models - Kubo and Havana - are eyeglasses. They come with standard lenses that can be replaced with those prescribed by your specialist. In that case, however, you have to take into account an additional expense that is added to the 329€ necessary for the purchase of smart glasses.
Lightweight, elegant and with the convenience of wireless charging
- Smart Myma they are characterized by rather large darkened lenses but this does not in the least affect the weight of the glasses. In reverse, the product is very light it's very comfortable, with plastic titanium rods and titanium alloy hinges that guarantee great resistance even in the long term.
To accompany them we also find an elegant faux leather case which has two different functions On the one hand it protects them from possible bumps and scratches, on the other it behaves like a real wireless charger. Simply put your glasses back in the case to recharge them, which means they can fill up with energy when you're not using them and be ready for action when needed.
Of course, the battery of the case is not infinite. Once dry you will have to recharge it using the supplied USB-C cable and the appropriate input on the back.
Technology on board
The most interesting elements of these Huawei X Gentle Monster II, however, are the less visible ones. First of all we have a speaker with a half-open design and a 128 mm diaphragm.
The acoustic system, renewed compared to the first generation, reduces sound dispersion by up to 12 dB, while I double microphones installed on the poles are designed to mitigate environmental interference.
Finally, we point out the adaptive volume technology, which lowers or raises the level according to the surrounding environment, without user intervention.
Huawei X Gentle Monster II review: everyday use
Use i Huawei X Gentle Monster II it's that easy. The first step is to pair them with the smartphone, an operation that involves placing them in the case and pressing the small button on the back for a few seconds. When the small LED next to it flashes and turns white you are ready to pair them with your phone. From that moment on you won't have to worry anymore: the Bluetooth 5.2 allows them to find and connect to your smartphone immediately, without wasting time.
This procedure applies with both Android and iOS. There is no difference even in terms of operation and both operating systems allow the installation of theAI Life application which helps you customize the experience, monitor the battery, update the firmware and find your glasses if they are lost.
The controls are really intuitive: with a double tap on the right rod you can start or pause playback, doing the same thing on the left instead you activate the voice assistant while sliding your finger you can skip a track and adjust the volume. On the phone front, on the other hand, a double tap on one of the two rods is enough to answer or end a call.
There is also the option of pinching the dipstick. This activates pairing to pair the glasses with another device.
Finally, there is no shortage the sensors that help the glasses to know when you have removed them so as to immediately stop playback; once you have worn them again, you will resume listening where you left them.
But how does the audio feel? This is certainly the most striking aspect of these smart glasses. The audio is clean, crisp and full-bodied, also thanks to their ability to cancel external noise to optimize the listening experience. But know that the acoustic experience reaches a higher level by pairing Gentle Monsters with a Huawei smartphone of the latest generation since in this way they can take advantage of a priority channel technology. Also worth noting is the ability to recognize different usage scenarios to then adapt the reproduction. We are not just talking about music but also about watching movies and above all about the use of video games. In short, minimized latency even for gamers. It's probably not a feature you'll take advantage of a lot on models with tinted lenses but with prescription variants it could make a difference.
The results are also satisfactory on the front privacy By raising the volume to the maximum, those around you will perceive what you are listening to, especially if you are in a quiet or very closed environment, but at normal volume you won't have to fear prying ears.
Finally, good performance of the microphones that allows your interlocutor to feel without any kind of problem.
Who are these glasses dedicated to?
The second generation of eyewear believed to be earphones is definitely a significant step forward compared to the first version (which we told you about in this video). However, we are not faced with a popular product given the € 329 required for the purchase.
