Acer Swift 3 2020 review
Acer Swift 3 2020 amazes immediately. The feeling is that you have a mockup in your hands. Not because it is poorly finished and cared for but because it is so light that it seems empty. Yet inside it hides a contemporary and handsome hardware, designed to accompany students and workers in every situation. But we don't want to anticipate anything. So let's dive into the Acer Swift 3 review 2020.
Lightweight, solid and minimal
Solo 1,15 kg for Acer Swift 3 2020. A figure that associated with the low thickness (1,6 cm) makes this notebook perfect for mobile work. It is so light that you will hardly notice you have it in your backpack.
However, this does not mean that it is not solid. On the contrary, the Taiwanese company has carefully studied the composition of the body, made in aluminum and magnesium alloy and designed to guarantee excellent resistance to mechanical stresses. This means that you don't have to constantly worry about its safety: the Acer Swift 3 can follow you almost anywhere without too many worries.
On the other hand, we expected something more on the aesthetic front. Don't get us wrong: the minimalism of this notebook we do not mind at all. Its sobriety allows it to be used everywhere, from the most elegant meeting rooms to the bar, from airport lounges to university classrooms. However, we would have appreciated some distinctive elements that gave a little more personality to Swift 3, but never mind: not everyone necessarily aims to stand out and many, especially in the workplace, will appreciate the spartan but refined design of this laptop.
We give you some additional details. The lid houses the Acer logo, as does the lower bezel of the monitor. On the hinge, on the other hand, we find the Swift writing clearly visible while on the front edge we have a small recess for opening the notebook which, no, cannot be entrusted to a single finger. The aforementioned hinge, which allows the display to fold 180 degrees, does some resistance, so you will have to hold it steady with one hand and open it necessarily with the other.
Along the left and right profiles we find instead all the inputs you need: two USB-A inputs, a USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 support, an HDMI and a headphone jack, as well as a dedicated power port. Except for the less and less used RJ45 for cable connection, you really have everything you need at your fingertips, therefore without resorting to external hubs and accessories.
Acer Swift 3 2020 review: more space for every activity
We are not talking about storage space but about displays. What matters here are not the 13,5 ″ of the IPS panel and not even the resolution of 2256 × 1504 pixels (little more than a Full HD) but the aspect ratio.
Acer Swift 3 is one of the few laptops with 3 format: 2 and yes, at first glance it will seem irrelevant or even annoying. In fact, we are used to thinking in 16: 9 and the variations in aspect can disturb users a bit. On balance, however, this unusual choice leads us to have more vertical space and, believe us, it will come in really handy in everyday life.
The screen, however, is also appreciated for other features. The brightness is in fact quite high, the contrast more than discreet and color reproduction also allows you to work in areas such as photo retouching and video editing without too much difficulty.
It goes without saying that you can also take advantage of the Acer Swift 3 to enjoy some video content, even if the speakers, located at the bottom of the laptop, are not particularly powerful. The audio will therefore not be very high and not too detailed. A real shame for a PC that actually has a lot to offer.
A very comfortable keyboard
Much of our work involves time spent typing madly on the keyboard. Article, email, messages, web searches. It therefore becomes vital to have a keyboard that can accompany us in all these activities without problems. Here the Taipei notebook does not disappoint: the travel is good, the size of the keys too and we have the now indispensable backlight. Two levels provided by the latter in order to adapt to different situations. However, it is not perfect. The white light of the LEDs does not blend perfectly with the gray of the keyboard and therefore the visibility is not perfect. Let's be clear, it's a start, a tiny detail but if you usually use your PC in low light conditions it's a note to take into consideration.
Otherwise the Acer Swift 3 performs well: we have all the keys we need and even a little gimmick for including the numeric keypad. The buttons on the right in fact have a double function that you can activate by pressing F12. It may not be of use to everyone but it is a foresight that we really appreciated. The power button located in the upper right corner is less convincing. Convenient, yes, but if you come from a notebook that has dedicated that position to the Delete key, you risk accidentally turning off the laptop.
On the other hand, the touchpad is average. Accuracy is good and there is support for Windows gestures but the plastic surface creates some friction.

Acer Swift 3 review: the only limit is gaming
Processor Intel Core i7-1065G7, 8 GB of RAM, integrated Intel iris Plus graphics card and a 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD: the equipment of our Acer Swift 3 is definitely interesting. “Our” because in reality there are other variants: the one with the AMD Ryzen 4000U processor - which we have already told you about - and the one with a slightly less performing Intel Core i5.
The model with the 7th generation iXNUMX practically does not fear anything: we used it to write, manage e-mail, watch movies and TV series, edit some photos with Photoshop and Lightroom and even for some video editing. Nothing too complex, mind you, but if you need to edit short movies, perhaps in Full HD and not in 4K, Acer Swift 3 will not disappoint you.
Do you need some distraction? Know that this notebook allows you to play less demanding titles, like Overwatch or Fortnite without too many sacrifices. Sure, you won't get the maximum framerate, but for occasional use it's more than adequate.
What you have to give up, however, is pushed gaming. And we're not just talking about the very recent Cyberpunk 2077 or the very heavy Microsoft Flight Simulator. Even slightly less demanding works hardly fit this PC.
Autonomy
Finally, we come to the autonomy chapter. There battery by 56 Wh not particularly surprising but it gives a minimum of 6 hours of use, hours that go up to 10 when you choose to use it only in video playback. On average, therefore, you will be able to cover a good part of the working day, after which you will have to opt for its 45W charger or for charging via USB-C.
Acer Swift 3 2020 review: who is it for?
Acer Swift 3 2020, in the variant with i7 processor, is available on the market at 1.099 € and yes, it is worth its price. If you are looking for a laptop suitable for study, smart (or remote) working and mobile use. If you do not need to manage very heavy programs or that require a contribution from the video card, this notebook is definitely for you.
