One of the new features added is called the Item Ticket. The Item Ticket is an item that can be used once per race and redefines your odds of getting a better item, be it the Blue Shell, Banana Peel, or whatever. This can be situational if you are having difficulty with opposing robots to have a better chance of winning.
To use it, you must have one available after familiarizing yourself with the game, which can be done by taking the courses at your convenience. It can also be part of a Gold Pass or set, as well as a possible daily item that can cost coins. Once you have one, take part in any race and play as usual.
At the start of the race, you'll be able to tap on an empty item slot at the top of your character to create a random item. If you already have an item, you will need to get rid of it before you can use the item ticket. The ticket can also only be used once per ride and if you don't have tickets available you obviously won't be able to use the feature.
Its use is completely optional, but if you need first place or have an advantage in the absence of a hitbox, RNG can be on your side.
