Instead of mentioning Tolkien or Beyoncé, I go straight to the point: the smart ring they are arriving. Indeed, some have already arrived. The smart rings, which use theNFC and Bluetooth to communicate with the smartphone, they could be the future of wearable technology. So much so that even Apple seems interested in developing a "iRing".
What is a smart ring for?
Creating a truly smart product in such a small format is not easy. So you have to find a compromise between what one smart ring can do, and its size. For now, there are two big distinctions to make, between rings that only use NFC to communicate with the phone, and those that also have Bluetooth.
Lo smart ring NFC
The simplest version is that of the NFC ring. This technology allows you to exchange secure data between two devices. What does it mean? What with the NFC smart ring can communicate with the smartphone in a basic way, for example for unlock it automatically when you approach the device. Or you can use it for i payments instead of credit card. Some smart rings even have more than one NFC sensor, to communicate different types of information: smartphone on the outside and credit card on the inside.
These rings are not, therefore, "very intelligent", but exploit theNFC for simple actions. And they cost little. The NFC smart ring Jakcom R3, for example, it will be used above all to unlock the smartphone via NFC and communicate secure notes with the phone. It does not offer particular gestures, nor the possibility for payments, but it is a good starting point in the world of smart rings (even if only compatible for Android).

- Liquid tungsten: amorphous carbon alloy, epoxy crystal ceramic.
- Health module: germanium, volcanic magnet, FIR energy stone.
- NXP Smart CDX: The M1 and ID area is equipped with dual-core NXP MCU chips.
The potential applications of NFC rings, however, are many more. For example, Kaspersky is developing a ring capable of create unique fingerprints, for even more secure access to your data.
The smart ring for fitness
There are also more sophisticated smart rings. In reality, much more sophisticated, even if the price increases accordingly. With Bluetooth, heart rate monitor e accelerometer a ring can do the same job that a smart band or smartwatch does. Obviously, you won't have the screen, but you will have a small and discreet fitness accessory.
Motif Ring Fitness, for example, records all your sporting activities and heartbeats. It also monitors yours sonno, and the application accompanying the ring will provide you with all the data to analyze your health. The readings are very sensitive, and the communication with the smartphone excellent. And it is also elegant to wear.

- The cost of the measurement will be credited towards your Motiv Ring purchase
- 24/7 fitness tracker: steps and distance, heart rate, activity, calories burned, sleep tracking.
The ring with artificial intelligence
At the moment, Motiv is probably the smartest ring you can buy in Italy. But things are moving, very fast. Amazon has already announced Echo Loop, your smart ring with Alexa. And that's exactly what you think: a (rather bulky) ring that you can talk to to take notes or do the shopping. As has already happened with smartwatches, it seems that the technology of the rings does is evolving very fast, adding features that make the “rings ever smarter”.
Also, in recent weeks, Apple has filed a patent, where an extendable ring is shown. The iRing may be upon us. And when Apple is also ready to launch its own smart ring, it means that soon we will all have one on our finger.
