Samsung A41 review: size does matter

In a historical period where smartphones with small dimensions abound, use a compact device like Samsung A41 is a real joy. Everything is possible thanks to his weight of only 152 grams and its contained measures, even if it has a 6,1 ”display. All merits that, perhaps, manage to make you forget the defects of this Samsung A41: let's find out together in the review!

Samsung A41 review: Samsung displays never disappoint

Samsung A41 review: size does matter

The compactness of this Samsung A41 is given both by the weight, as we anticipated, and by its size: it is high 149,9mm wide, 69,8mm wide, and 7,9mm thick. The shell, completely made of plastic, encloses a display Super AMOLED yes 6,1 ” of excellent quality, with FullHD + resolution. On the upper part of the display there is a teardrop notch that encloses the front camera. The capsule is inserted along the upper edge, while the fingerprint sensor is integrated under the display and unfortunately we found it a bit slow: it is very accurate in reading, but the animation seems to make the unlocking phase very “rubbery”.

Along the frame we find on the right the power button and the volume rocker, on the left the trolley for the sim and on the bottom the 3,5mm jack for headphones, in addition to the input type-C for charging, speaker and microphone. On the back we find the photographic sector, consisting of three sensors.

What we find under the body

Unfortunately, under the body we do not find a Snapdragon processor or an Exynos, but a MediaTek Helio P65, CPU octa core at 2 GHz. We say “unfortunately” because the presence of a MediaTek is noticed in some moments, in which the smartphone becomes a bit rubbery and lacks responsiveness. Overall, however, it performs well, especially compared to some competing smartphones with the same processor family. We were also surprised by the optimization of energy consumption, which allows you to easily cover a full day of intense use.

To complete the technical sheet we find 4GB RAM memory e 64GB of internal memory expandable via micro SD. Presents the chip NFC, usable with Samsung Pay and Google Pay, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, supports the 4G / LTE data network - with the possibility of dual sim - and obviously Wi-Fi. The entire connectivity department is very stable and reliable, including reception.

As mentioned before, autonomy is one of the strong points: the battery 3500mAh allows you to cover a day of stress use, arriving in the evening with a 20% residual charge. There is no wireless charging, in fact Samsung A41 only supports charging via type-C cable fino a 15W.

To move the whole we find Android 10 with One UI 2.1 interface, as always very complete, with many applications from the Samsung ecosystem. Among these we find SmartThings to control smart devices, Samsung Health, Smart Switch to import data from your previous smartphone and much more.

A camera that gives its best with lots of light

The rear photographic compartment consists of three cameras: that 48MP main with f / 2.0 aperture, a 8MP f / 2.2 wide angle it's a 5MP f / 2.4 depth sensor. Inside the drop notch on the display we find the 25MP front camera.

The photos are good, considering that it is always a mid-range smartphone. It gives its best in optimal conditions, with a lot of light. Macros are also good. On the other hand, when there is little light, the sensors limp a little, also because there is no night mode. The biggest disappointment concerns the videos: Samsung A41 only runs in fullHD at 30fps and there is no stabilization.

Samsung A41 review: buy it or not

The Samsung A41 has some flaws, such as video quality, the somewhat thoughtful fingerprint sensor and a MediaTek processor with its limitations, but it also has a lot of advantages. Among these we find the compactness, especially compared to the average, its autonomy that allows you to cover more than a day and an excellent AMOLED display. In our opinion the merits far outweigh the defects, especially now that it has dropped a lot in price compared to the price list of € 299, and we recommend purchasing this Samsung A41.
