What to expect from the PlayStation 5 showcase
According to Sony, the PS5 event “will feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners. That means we'll get a detailed look at proprietary titles from studios like Insomniac Games as well as Sony partner studios like Bluepoint Games. The showcase will focus primarily on the PS5 launch lineup, although the PlayStation blog announcement post says there will be games included beyond the launch as well. Considering this is the last push for the system before this party kicks off, we'll likely see some teasers for some giant games that are still a long way off. Expect to see Spider-Man: Miles Morales gameplay and have the rest of the PlayStation 5 launch lineup confirmed by the end of the event.
Here's a full list of games that are likely to appear during the PS5 event.
- Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Souls of the demon
- Astro Games Room
- Gran Turismo 7
- Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
- Sackboy: a great adventure
- Destruction All-Stars
- Western forbidden horizon
- Return
- Call of Duty: Cold War Black Ops
The games listed above are just the most likely appearances for this showcase. Sony probably has a few surprise reveals that will be unveiled at the event. Most of these games are first-party titles, but Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War could also make an appearance despite being a third-party title due to Activision's partnership with Sony.
With just two months to go, there's still a lot of unknowns about Black Ops Cold War, and a PlayStation event seems like a good place to show off more footage, especially with the game potentially being a launch title based. from the moment the PS5 is delivered. Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion are two other major third-party games that could appear, but these are unlikely given Ubisoft's marketing relationship with Microsoft and the Xbox Series X for these titles.
Besides the games, the price and release date of the PS5 will almost certainly be revealed during this showcase. The price and release date for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series X were confirmed by Microsoft last week, and now Sony is likely following up on its own announcement. The Xbox Series X and Series X will release on November 10, with pre-orders starting September 22, so Sony is unlikely to let Microsoft shy away from the spotlight. These systems are actually only two months away from release, so the price and release date are due to be revealed very soon.
The Xbox Series X is priced at $ 499 and the Xbox Series S is priced at a lot cheaper $ 299, so it will be interesting to see how Sony's machines stack up. The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will likely be cheaper than the standard PlayStation 5, although the price difference between the two remains to be seen. Accessories prices, including the price of the new DualSense controller, will likely also be revealed at this event.
