Predator Hunting Grounds is the new videogame title based on the famous movie franchise “Predator”. It looks like an online multiplayer action, in which the protagonists can take turns taking on the role of hunters or the alien. All within settings in which to battle.
Predator Hunting Grounds a story… Light?
From the point of view of the plot the game is based on a linear principle: a military commando is faced with missions to gather information, recover artifacts, or eliminate drug lords. During the assignments the commando will face the alien Predator and can choose whether to escape and survive or try to hunt him.
As you will have understood the history is practically non-existent, even if it is a side dish. The context in which the main challenge is contained is sparse and not very characteristic.
It should be emphasized that often this genre of titles does not present a complex or committed narrative structure, however a little more context would have added depth without ruining the gaming experience.

The predators, fearsome humanoid aliens with very advanced technology, are subject like all of us to a healthy passion for make-up and wigs. Inside the main menu there is the ability to customize our avatars, whether they are military or predator. Nothing complex though: we can define the gender, change the mask to the alien or the hair color of the military. Nothing more. The modification is therefore not too satisfactory and above all it is not evident during matches.

Customization of heroes and predators is actually a necessity, an indispensable presence to justify lootboxes, that is, the boxes of extra content that we can unlock in the game. Thanks to the credits acquired during the various games, the player can thus purchase additional content packs of various kinds. All aesthetic specifications and not very useful, alternating with a series of small advantages to be exploited in battle, such as passive skills or weapon upgrades. Nothing that other titles have already developed better.
Predator Hunting Grounds review: simple game mechanics
The foundations of this title are solidly anchored to a classic mechanic: Indians and cowboys. One player will play the role of the predator, the others will form the commando dedicated to escape or try to capture him. Nothing more.
The military
Being in the military group means, in fact, stalling until the predator comes to spice up the party. Many of the missions that are the background to the various settings are repetitive, only useful for accumulating credits that can be spent in the game, and without any peculiar aspect. Each game session will have the usual introductory movie regardless of the map chosen or the starting point of the game, the goal will be to go from point A to point B in rather limited terrain in terms of extension and tactical ideas. The set tasks are small, from gathering information, destroying evidence, collecting resources, killing certain targets, etc., etc. Indeed, a customization on weapons is possible, as well as specifying the class of your character, however after several hours of play, it is quite difficult to say that the result changes depending on the class used.
The predator
The game is called Predator: Hunting Grounds. Although with "hunting grounds" he intends to describe the ambivalent hunting of both the alien and the military, it is clear that the focus of the title has largely shifted to the Predator. Impersonating this war machine is one of the few satisfactions of this hunt Sui generis. The alien is fast, snappy, camouflages itself, is able to make huge leaps, walk in trees and fire explosive lasers. If for the military the tactical strategies do not have an effective response in game, with the Predator instead you can take away some satisfactions. There are many choices you can play with to get some nice kills. You can take advantage of the camouflage and tree running abilities to move quickly and unseen from one side of the map to the other, or run everything in front of you, focusing everything on the toughness of the character and on the extremely high damage of his attacks. Let's face it, it lends itself to bloody slaughters that take full advantage of Mortal Kombat and its disembowelments without any restraint: tasty.
Outdated and poorly finished graphics
Assuming that the end user is completely starved of videogames, it is still difficult to defend a graphic style behind at least 5 years, to be kind, compared to current solutions. The character models are anonymous, inexpressive, without a variety and a rough finish. The settings are practically all the same, during a drafting match we even wondered if the map was always the same and only the points where we started the match changed. The animations barely live up to their name not to mention the pre-game intro videos. During an upload we witnessed a "motion blur" effect during the transition from one image to another. The textures are not very refined and moreover they load slowly. The only one graphic aspect that is unquestionably saved, and is deserving of an honorable mention, is the Predator. The model is exceptional, the finishing of the same astonishing, very faithful in every movement and musculature enough to verge on realism, provided that such an alien can be realistic. The same goes for the armor, weapons and helmet at his disposal, flawless in every respect. A contrast unfortunately that makes the flaws of the rest even more evident.
Predator Hunting… Bug
Not even doing it on purpose, passing over all the problems encountered so far, here is that as soon as we start the game the errors occur promptly as students on the first day of school. From the loading page that freezes by revising the usual image several times, to an unstable net code, to imaginative collisions. The uploads are really slow and on some occasions we found ourselves hoping that the game settings would be kept, under penalty of being thrown out, forcing the whole team to reload. Just during our test it happened to freeze completely without being able to do anything except ask the Predator to slaughter us quickly to end the game.
A non-existent sound sector
In a game of this kind, sound mechanics certainly surround in most cases, except that when studying and searching for targets it is important to understand where the sound comes from. All in all, after an initial phase of loss, the necessary noises are perceived to imagine what is about to happen, but the rest of the audio sector is not saved. The weapons have the same animation and sound for when the shot is fired, the ambient audio is devoid of depth and any effect. Playing with monitor audio is like doing it with muted speakers, some aspects are saved in the headphones but at times it risks not making any difference.

But he is nice
As in the most famous of fairy tales, where the important thing is "to be beautiful inside" (under penalty of the fact that all the protagonists were very beautiful girls), Predator Hunting Grounds turns out to be the cool guy at the party. He's wrong in many videogame aspects, almost all, the general impression is that too much budget has been allocated for obtaining the licenses to use the brand. As a result they were forced to meet high standards when it comes to the Predator, allocating a small budget to the rest of the game. Nevertheless, it is possible to create a recipe equally rich in taste if accompanied with online friends and lots of irony. Played in company, it offers a few hours of entertainment and fun. A completely missed opportunity, in the presence of greater attention to the graphics, more variety of gameplay and a slight refinement to the depth of the context, would have made it without a shadow of a doubt worthy of belonging to the franchise.. Since it turns out to be so uncharacteristic, the upside is that it can all be fixed with a couple of hefty updates. Hoping for this, we go back to sprinkle our bodies with mud so as not to be detected by the thermal view of the Pr .. Ah no, damn!
