A little over a month after the official launch of Planet Zoo, comes the first expansion Arctic Pack introducing arctic animals to the game, two new campaigns and lots of decorations a north pole theme, here is our review.
Planet Zoo: Arctic Pack recensione
As the title suggests, the main theme of this expansion pack isArctic. For this reason, the due campagne in single player are focused on the preservation and development of the species of this specific biome. In the two missions our beloved returns Bernard Goodwin, tycoon and animalist philanthropist, who intends to introduce the species of the north pole to the world.
To do this, Goodwin opened a zoo in Norway which aims to become the spearhead of Arctic zoos. Here, the DLC theme oozes from every angle: in addition to a perpetually snowy and cold climate, there are rich environmental decorations that give life to the expansion such as a giant Christmas tree in the center of the park or new structures to insert shops and accommodation for employees. The challenge is quite simple and straightforward: populate the North Pole zoo (and beyond) and take care of them and visitors.
The second challenge takes us instead in Mexico where Goodwin has decided to open a zoo to introduce Arctic animals, even to those who live far from those regions. It's about a much more demanding challenge where we should pay more attention to many elements including the climate, not at all suitable for tundra animals. The campaign will also require more requirements to get the maximum score including raising visitor awareness and using only renewable energy sources to feed the zoo.
North Pole and beyond
Planet Zoo: Arctic Pack introduce 4 new animals arctic: lreindeer, the arctic wolf, the white bighorn and, of course, the polar bear. Each animal is accompanied by its own habitat characteristics as well as by new features to keep the specimens happy and busy. Although the number of new species introduced is very small, it must be said that these are not just re-skins. The arctic wolf, for example, will move and act in a totally different way from the wolves already present in the original game.
Great attention has been given to the factor "Sustainability", already strong in Planet Zoo. In addition to the main missions, always permeated by a strong sense of safeguarding species, this DLC introduces new information panels for visitors focused onecology and respect for the planet. You can choose the theme that the sign will show between Global warming, the melting of glaciers or the scarcity of drinking water. All this will make it possible to increase the education of visitors.
To give greater prominence to these elements, as already mentioned, there is no lack of challenges and references to renewable energy sources which will allow you to power your zoo using i solar panels or wind turbines for one more facility green. The elements of the scenario introduced are more than 200 among buildings, decorations and foliage, most of which have a "Scandinavian" theme. They will allow you to create your own custom North Pole themed zoo with ice sculptures and a don't-know-what of vichingo.

That's it?
We would have liked to write and experiment more on the new Planet Zoo DLC but sadly, the news has already finished. The few animals introduced are discovered already in the first minutes of the new missions, making you lose the novelty factor in a short time. We would have appreciated the presence of a few more species like polar stoats or walruses. In addition, beyond the equipment, the new species do not require particularly different care than the other animals in the base game: a large enclosure full of snow will suffice.
Another minor element is that of renewable energy sources. Although we appreciated their presence even in a management video game of this type, their use does not entail any kind of advantage over the classic electric motors that we have already experienced; beyond the missions in the campaign, the only difference in the sandbox is purely aesthetic.
Planet Zoo: Arctic Pack Recensione – To buy it or not?
If the scarcity of elements introduced in the game made you doubt the purchase, to counterbalance the value of the DLC we think the price: the expansion is in fact available for just € 9,99 which seemed like a fair enough cost for the new content.
If you loved Planet Zoo as much as we do, you will love adding a (small) touch of white to your Zoo with some fascinating species made, once again, in the best way.
