Orange installs YouTube in one of the Liveboxes, better late than never!

Orange has finally decided to offer YouTube a place in the interface of its Liveboxes. Not all are affected. It is even rather the opposite: only the UHD Livebox is concerned, as well as the second version of the Orange TV stick. The application is compatible with voice search and parental controls.

For almost 10 years, YouTube has been coming to the living room. First, thanks to connected televisions which carried a client for the platform (at Samsung for example). Then in decoders and digital boxes. And finally thanks to connected TV keys, such as the Chromecast. Operators have almost all had the opportunity to install it in their Boxes, with more or less good ideas to improve ergonomics with a remote control. Whether Bouygues Telecom, SFR or Free. Or almost the entire French market. Except an irreducible Gaul: Orange.

But the incumbent has finally decided to take this step. In a short press release, the access provider announces the arrival of YouTube in its offer. Not on all the Liveboxes in circulation (it was certainly a little too much to ask). No longer on half of them. But on only one: the Livebox UHD. Because YouTube is so much better in 4K (especially the videos of little cats that abound on the streaming platform). And to be really complete, know that YouTube is also coming to Orange TV Key v2.

The same interface as the Android TV app

You will notice, on the visual accompanying this article and which accompanied the press release, that the interface of YouTube on the UHD Livebox is strictly identical to that of the YouTube app on Android TV and on tvOS. Orange therefore only carried this application to its Box. You will also notice that the screenshot is in English. There is therefore a risk that this visual is only an illustration that does not necessarily reflect reality.

However, let's not be too hard, because Orange has not simply adapted YouTube to its box. It accompanies it with the expected services. First, the YouTube app on Livebox is compatible with Djingo voice search (which is always more pleasant than typing a text with the virtual keyboard). Then it is possible to restrict access to YouTube using Orange parental controls. In its press release, the operator does not enter into the granularity of this announcement: can we filter the content or is the entire access restricted? We will have to wait for the launch of the service scheduled for next week.
