This last year has made evident the importance of living room as a new privileged entertainment center, through its own television and the contents both transmitted and on-demand. Therefore, to answer the demand for devices suitable for maintaining this environment updated, Nokia presented two complementary products: one is the decoder for digital terrestrial Nokia Terrestrial Receiver 6000, while the other is the TV box smart Nokia Streaming Box 8000 4K UHD. To tell you about it, we tried them, and here is our review of the two box TV di Nokia.
Our review of Nokia TV boxes
The two devices, aesthetically very similar, they have two functions well distinct and indeed complementary. The Terrestrial Receiver 6000 box ('Receiver for Digital Terrestrial') connects to the classic antenna, and is used to decode and show the classic digital terrestrial channels. Compatible with both the current standard DVBT than with the imminent DVBT2, will allow you to enjoy all publicly broadcast content even after the transition to the second generation of digital terrestrial. The Streaming Box 8000 4K UHD, with the operating system on board Android TV, it is instead a device capable of connect to the Internet and to access all streaming content platforms, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video e Disney +.
Nokia Terrestrial Receiver 6000
The Nokia decoder is certainly the most basic device between two boxes. In fact, it allows you to do practically only two things: see the channels of digital terrestrial e read and write on external memory units, like pens USB e external hard disk. This last aspect serves both for the vision of photo, music e film that for the registration of live content.
On the box we find several doors. In "entry" we have, in addition tosupply, also the attack for the antenna coaxial cable and a door USB type A for reading external drives. At the exit we have three options: a door HDMI, for the most modern TVs; acoaxial digital audio output, for an external plant; aanalog AV output, which uses the standard jack from 3.5mm. The latter door, combined with theAV-Scart adapter included in the package, can be used for all older TVs without an HDMI port.
Once turned on, set the language and done the channel search, the navigation interface is a lot essential, as well as the features present. You can browse through the various channels, schedule shutdown, create a custom playlist of channels and choose the language (in channels with multiple audio tracks) and the presence of subtitles.
The essentiality is maintained, and goes beyond the shortage, regarding the use of external units. Once a USB device is connected, it is possible to browse the folders inside it in a rudimentary way, first of all having to choose the type of file you want to view between images, audio and video. Content reproduction is rudimentary: the navigation between the photos is slow and seasoned with fairly superfluous transitions, while at the video level there are several options, such as the subtitle support.
Nokia Streaming Box 8000 4K UHD
The Nokia streaming box is not, apparently, different from other boxes equipped with Android TV on the market. In fact, it offers a platform that can be navigated via remote control with uses e downloadable games, similar to an Android phone. However, this is not a bad thing: the experience is indeed offered in a way complete, smoothly e without compromises.
Compared to the older generation of chromecast, for example, there is a navigable interface via remote control, and a phone (although the functionality Integrated Chromecast still allows you to use it). Compared to the new chromecast with Google TV, the various generations of Fire TV di Amazon and even the Mi Box S 4K, all equipped with remote control, then offers the advantage of afull assortment of doors: in fact, all together, we find a LAN port for wired connection, a USB port A per unit sterne and even a USB-C port for charging your devices. Even the outputs are not limited to alone HDMI: in fact we also find a door coaxial digital audio it's a AV analog port, as on the decoder box.
Returning to the navigation aspect, if the interface is not different from that of another box or smart TV with Android TV, the remote control instead stands out for some details. It is first and foremost built with quality materials, both in terms of body and frets. The weight is well distributed, with the 'tip' being thinner than the 'bottom'. Note the presence of the key backlighting, activated by touch and very useful for using the pointer when the lights are off. The link is of type Bluetooth, and is therefore reliable even with the box "out of sight" with respect to the remote control. The presence of a closes everything microphone, which can be used to interface with Google Assistant and navigate the interface using your own voice.
Nokia TV box review: our opinion
Both of Nokia's products are definitely of quality, and this is also reflected in the price, significantly higher than that of similar products. Despite their complementary nature, moreover, you will hardly want to take both of these devices. The decoder, in fact, is suitable for a TV SD, HD o FullHD without internal decoder compatible with the new generation of digital terrestrial. In this situation, however, the streaming box 4K it may be wasted, compared to other solutions with a lower output resolution but also a lower price. If on the other hand your TV is 4K, and is capable of making the most of Nokia's box, it is probably recent enough to have already included compatibility with the DVB-T2 standard.
Taken individually and for your specific needs, however, they are both very good products. So if you are looking for a decoder for your old television or an Android TV box for a 4K model, then we can undoubtedly recommend Nokia devices.
