Hogwarts Legacy, the action role-playing game set for a long time in the Harry Potter universe, has been officially revealed. The Portkey Games-developed title has been announced as a current and next-gen game, but won't arrive until 2021.
The game has only received one reveal trailer so far, so details are scarce in the field. However, since its unveiling, Harry Potter and PlayStation fans have been looking for information on one aspect in particular: the multiplayer mode. Hogwarts Legacy seems like the perfect fit for an MMO style of gameplay, or even a games-as-a-service model. So, will it have a multiplayer mode so players can play alongside their friends?
At the time of writing, there has been no confirmation about a multiplayer aspect to Hogwarts Legacy. However, portions of the game's trailer reveal local or online co-op functionality.
At 1:01 am in the video above, the narrator of the preview says that "You'll meet lifelong friends here." This may just be the NPCs you could befriend in a possible single-player campaign, but it may also hint at a multiplayer mode that lets you study magic with your friends before traversing the world of Hogwarts Legacy together.
Later images show two students brewing potions together in the same cauldron before taking off on their taps. Again, these could be part of the single-player story-based quest scenes, but could also offer a glimpse of the multiplayer aspects you can participate in.
Finally, one last sequence, at around 2:02 am, teases co-op combat. While the rest of the preview shows a single mage fighting alone, this brief portion of the video shows two mages encountering a dragon. It could be just an NPC you need to help or another player joining the adventure.
