Command and Conquer Remastered is more than an HD remake of the beloved RTS franchise. Developer Petroglyph - alongside publisher EA and the Command and Conquer community - really wants to drive home what the series was.
To that end, it would be a shame to cry if LAN play wasn't supported in the upcoming remastered collection. If you are curious about Command and Conquer Remastered having LAN functionality, we are here to give you the details.
Are LAN games possible in Command and Conquer Remastered?
Image via ea.comIn the 1990s, LAN parties were all the rage in colleges, universities, and gamer households. LAN - or local area network to give its full title - the parties allowed people to play multiplayer titles together using routers and switches to connect their devices to each other.
With Command and Conquer Remastered ready to launch, series veterans and LAN parties are wondering if they'll be supported in-game. After all, if the compilation wants to enjoy the nostalgic feel of games, LAN support would be a big deal.
Unfortunately, LAN support will not be available at launch. In a Blog posted on the Order and Conquer website, Jim Vessella - producer of the remastered collection - revealed that this feature had not been developed in time for its release.
Vessella explained that the team had high hopes of getting it ready for launch day, but the Covid-19 pandemic prevented them from properly testing it. This is due to social distancing measures across the world - measures that have prevented the development team from testing the capabilities of the game's local network.
If this gets you down, don't worry. Vessella went on to say that LAN support remains a high priority for the team and that they hope to fix it in the future. Hopefully you can get your friends together and party like 1999, very soon.
