Solid and distinct
The design of the Huawei P30 Pro is not particularly original, but it will be enough for you to hold it in your hand for a few seconds to appreciate it. In fact, the device is solid and ergonomic, thanks both to the glass curved on both sides, which gives a secure grip, and to the dimensions. Of course, it is definitely not a compact device, but the excellent display / body ratio has allowed Huawei to create a smartphone that can also be managed with one hand.
Rather canonical the on and off keys, placed on the right profile, while the lower side houses the speaker - mono -, the 2 SIM slot (or a SIM and the NM card of Huawei to expand the memory) and the entrance USB Type-C for charging. No 3,5mm jack but inside the box you will find the USB-C headset. They are also accompanied by a transparent cover, the charging cable and the 40W power supply.
The display, curved and from 6,47 inches, is an OLED with a drop notch and Full HD + resolution that is practically perfect in any situation. The colors are vibrant, the blacks are excellent and visibility is excellent even in bright sunlight. Then I would like to point out the possibility of choose the color mode, which can be Normal or Intense, and temperature, Hot, Cold or Default.
The oleophobic treatment is also good, so you won't spend your time removing possible fingerprints. The choice in this case was almost obligatory given that the fingerprint sensor is actually integrated into the display. The reader, among other things, is certainly one of the fastest in the category even if, on balance, I used it little: by activating face recognition, very few times you will have to place your finger on the display. But be careful: the unlocking based on face recognition is two-dimensional and less secure than the fingerprint reader.
Also present IP68 certification for resistance to water and dust, while the notification LED is absent. Don't panic: you can always activate theAlways On Display to see notifications in real time.
Kirin 980 and EMUI 9.1: a winning combination
It goes without saying, but I want to repeat it anyway: Huawei P30 Pro is a top of the range. This means that the performances are excellent by definition. The Kirin 980 processor, flanked by 8 GB of RAM and the Mali-G76 MP10 GPU, does its job excellently. You can surf, play, work and take pictures repeatedly - he won't miss a beat. The new cooling system then avoids unpleasant overheating, so you can really sleep peacefully.
The connectivity and the telephone sector are also excellent. But remember that the ear capsule, which works very well, is under the display, so you will have to get used to resting your ear on the screen.
The 4200mAh battery really pleased me. In fact, I arrived at the end of the day with a good 20% residual even on the most intense days. And if you use it mildly, you could cover almost 36 hours.
Finally, definitely convincing EMUI 9.1. I was not particularly impressed in the past, but now Huawei's Emotion UI has caught up a good level of maturity. Sure, the aesthetics can still improve, but overall it feels smooth and packed with useful features. Among these we certainly have the gestures, but also the PrivateSpace, ie the possibility of creating a completely separate space where to store files and information that you want to hide from prying eyes. For privacy lovers there is also a Safe, so you can encrypt photos and videos.

A stunning photographic sector
The flagship of the Huawei P30 Pro is undoubtedly the camera. In fact, the Chinese feature phone presents itself with ben four different sensors. The first, the main one, is from 40 megapixel, with wide angle lens and optical stabilization. What is striking, however, is not the amount of megapixels, but the type of sensor. It's called SuperSensitive and uses a RYYB (Red, Yellow, Yellow, Blue) scheme. In short, no RGB: the green here has been replaced by yellow, which allowed the Shenzhen giant to dramatically increase the ISO sensitivity. All this to allow you to get excellent shots even in low light conditions.
So, to recap: the first sensor is 40 megapixel with RYYB spectrum. And the others? The second is an ultra-wide 20 megapixel camera, while the third is from 8 megapixel and is equipped with a 5-lens periscope system that allows you to get one 5x optical zoom. There is also a 10x hybrid zoom and a digital zoom that goes up to 50x. Finally we have the TOF, which deals with depth and is therefore used to obtain the bokeh effect or to improve augmented reality experiences.
[The photographic quality guaranteed by the rear module is truly incredible. The shots are excellent, also enriched by the excellent artificial intelligence that recognizes the subject and improves the shot without exaggerating, so the image will be quite natural. The shots taken with the 5x optical zoom and even with the 10x hybrid zoom are really surprising, while you will certainly lose quality by reaching 50x. Among other things, with that zoom level it is difficult to stay still. Then there are many modalities present, including Night, obviously designed for night shots. However, I suggest you not to use it indiscriminately. In fact, sometimes it lightens the photo excessively and you risk losing interesting details or nuances. An example can be found below: the photo taken from my hotel room in Paris shows a blue lighthouse in the standard version, while activating the Night mode the colored beam is lost and the sky perhaps becomes too bright.
[Excellent results also for the wide angle, both during the day and in low light conditions, and for the 32 megapixel front camera. Decidedly good videos that can count on both optical and digital stabilization.
However, it remains to improve the application that yes, it is full of features, but sometimes you risk getting lost. Perhaps it would be better to lighten it a little to make it more intuitive and affordable even for less experienced users.
Huawei P30 Pro: to buy it or not to buy it?
If your budget allows for a top of the range, the answer is yes. Huawei P30 Pro is a really great smartphone, especially for those who want a practically unbeatable photographic sector. It's perfect? Not really, there are micro-defects such as the absence of the 3,5 mm jack and the excessive richness of the application dedicated to the camera, but it is all negligible.
The cost? 999 € for the version from 128 GB e 1099 € for the 256GB one. Four possible colors: Black, Aurora, Breathing Crystal e Amber Sunrise (which is the coolest but shhh, I didn't tell you anything).
