Perhaps not everyone knows this but also Instagram allows you to send and receive private messages. These massages, called direct messages, give life to real private chats that allow you to exchange photos and videos.
Private messages will not appear in your feed, searches or on your profile. The functionality is not there for everyone to see but sending Instagram direct messages is really very simple. Here is the procedure.
How to send a direct message
The feature that allows you to send and receive Instagram direct messages is called direct and now we are going to find out together how it works. First of all to access it you need to press the button located at the top right of the Instagram app.
That kind of arrow: as shown in the following image.
In this new screen, which will be nothing more than our homepage where all recent conversations are displayed, we must go and click on "New message".
A new window will open in which the whole list of people we follow will be present. In this new window there will also be a search bar that will allow us to find the recipient of our message easily.
As soon as the contact at the bottom is selected, the box that allows you to type the text will immediately appear. So let's touch on "Write a message…”And let's type the text.
To send the written text just tap on "Submit”Present on the keyboard of your smartphone or tablet.
How to send photos or videos
Instagram Direct allows you to send photos or videos as a direct message to one or more people. You can send photos or videos from your gallery or acquire new ones. So if we want to send an image in the gallery of our smartphone, just tap on the icon at the bottom right and a preview will open with all our photos and videos.
To send a photo or video, select it, choose the contact and then click on "Submit".
How to send temporary photos or videos
If, on the other hand, we want to send a photo or video taken instantly, just click on the camera button and then take the photo or record the video.
You can send temporary photos or videos either as a group message or as an individual message. As soon as someone opens temporary photos or videos you sent them, the message will no longer be visible in your mail.
Why does the direct message not arrive?
You should know that if someone you don't follow sends you a message, a request will appear in your inbox. So you must first agree to receive messages from this person in order to view them: the same thing goes for you when you try to send direct messages to contacts you do not follow.
To reject or accept the message, swipe left on the message, then select Reject o Allow at the bottom of the screen.
You can also touch Reject them all at the bottom of the screen to ignore all requests at once. If you allow someone to request messages, you will find their future messages directly in the mail.
