How it has changed: the agenda

In the last few weeks, we have reflected extensively on our daily use of the diary. And we realized that, for some time now, we have lost the habit of writing down our appointments and commitments. But not because we don't have more, mind you. Rather, due to the fact that even our daily planner is now used for a technological function. And after much reflection, we decided to tell the story ofagenda for appointments, which today will be the protagonist of the column "How has changed".

Who Invented the Dating Diary?

When we looked for information to answer this question, which we ourselves have asked ourselves these days, we were amazed to discover how recent its origin was. Apparently, in fact, the history of the dating planner began in 1812, when English John Letts combined the layout of a diary with that of a calendar. He thus obtained a unique object, never seen before, which allowed to keep track of future events instead of past ones. An invention that perfectly met the needs of the businessmen of the time, who found themselves experiencing the chaos associated with the enormous commercial growth of the city of London.

How it has changed: the agenda

Although innovative, and extremely useful, this product began to be widely distributed on the market only a few decades later. Indeed, it was only in the early years of the 20th century that the so-called globalization of the diary industry took place. Everything is due to the secretary Grace Schurr, which convinced the company Norman & Hill to import appointment planners from the United States, where they had been launched on the market at least a century earlier. And that's how the London was born in 1921 Filofax, a company specializing in the organization of paper. But it soon became famous for its flagship product, the Dating Planner.

Moleskine, the real revolution in the sector

When it comes to diaries, it is practically impossible not to mention the name of the Moleskine, the notebook that has gone down in history for being the favorite tool of artists like Chatwin or Picasso. But what many don't know is the double story behind this product. In a first phase of her life, in fact, the notebook was produced by a little girl family business from Tours - France -, which then stopped production in 1986. At that time, it was mostly used as a tool for notes or sketches, especially by artists who have gone down in history. But Moleskine boasts two lives, as we have announced.

After ten years that the French company had stopped production, the Milanese publisher Fashion & Fashion decided to bring Moleskine back on the market, respecting all its characteristic features. There cover in dark colored oilcloth, light paper and the elastic to close are the elements that the publisher has re-proposed in all its products. And not only. To relaunch the product, he was keen to underline that it is the “legendary notebook used by Hemingway, Picasso and Chatwin“. But over the years Moleskine has become more than that. Now, in fact, it is a full-fledged appointment diary.

How it has changed: the agenda

Even the agenda becomes tech

Let's face it: the appointment diary does not seem to have seen a great evolution in terms of form, but undoubtedly it has had it in terms of its use. If initially it was a tool reserved exclusively for businessmen, today the agenda is instead useful for everyone. But this is not the only change we have seen in recent years. Like any other object used in our daily life, the agenda has also become hi-tech. It is a perfect demonstration of this Smart Writing Set di Moleskine, which allows you to digitize all the notes marked on the diary using the special Pen + Ellipse. In a nutshell, you just need to use it as if it were a normal pen to write with, even if it then collects all your notes on a special App.

In short, Moleskine's is a system that is able to combine the needs of a paper diary with those of a mobile application. But it's impossible to deny that apps have slowly replaced our traditional dating agenda. Google Calendar, for example, it has increasingly become a tool used by professionals (and not only) to mark appointments and annotate important details concerning them. But there are hundreds of other similar applications and tools, useful both in life and in work. The Apple Calendar, or that of Microsoft Outlook, for example. Or again A e Timepage. And all this without considering that every smartphone is equipped with a calendar that allows you to mark important appointments, complete with reminders.

In short, in 2022 the agenda seems to have become an integral part of our most used device, the telephone. And this marks the enormous evolution followed by this product. Today, in fact, it is truly everyone's prerogative. But once upon a time it was exclusive to the richest men of the time.
