Google Home: no need to repeat “Ok Google” to talk to the assistant

Google Home: no need to repeat “Ok Google” to talk to the assistant

Ok Google, the famous voice command that is used to summon the Google Assistant, is no longer essential on Google Home. An update allows Google's artificial intelligence to listen a few seconds after a first question. No need to repeat “Ok Google” or “say Google” before each command!

Google Assistant, the artificial intelligence integrated into Android smartphones and Google Home speakers, is constantly evolving. Thanks to Duplex, Google Assistant will soon be able to make a phone call for you to reserve a table in a restaurant or a haircut in a hairdressing salon. At the Google I / O conference in May 2021, Google unveiled the upcoming new Google Assistant features. In the coming months, the assistant will be equipped with several new voices, customizable controls and a new smartphone interface.

Ok Google is no longer essential on Google Home

A new update to the Google Assistant is currently being rolled out to all users of a Google Home, Google Home Mini or Google Home Max speaker. “This is a new step to make your interactions with the assistant more natural” assures Google.

The “Continuous Conversation” option actually allows the assistant to continue listening to you after a command has been executed. For a period of 8 seconds, you can continue to chat without having to repeat Ok Google. During this time, the speaker lights will remain on. If no command is detected, Google Home will return to standby mode. On a daily basis, this update sounds like a small revolution.

So you can chain commands in a row without wasting a second of time. First ask Google about the weather for the day, before asking them to set a reminder for tonight, or to launch your favorite playlist on Spotify.

To start a conversation, however, it is always essential to pronounce Ok Google, recalls the Mountain View firm in a post on its blog. The update is currently being rolled out. The option should soon appear in your application.

To activate the Continuous Conversation option on Google Home:

  • Open theGoogle Home app
  • Press More settings
