If your dream is to transform yourself into one of Disney's well-known characters, now you can finally make it happen. Snapchat's new filter was launched last week "Cartoon 3 D“, Which uses augmented reality to make users look like Frozen characters. As you can imagine, the success was incredible. Over 215 million users have interacted with the filter, viewed more than 1.7 billion times. After all, which of you would not want to look like Elsa at least for once?
The Disney-inspired Snapchat filter sets a trend
Disney-style filters have always been one of Snapchat's biggest trends. In August 2020, for example, the App gained 28.5 million installations, the best milestone after that of May 2019, when there were over 41 million installations. But let us say that it was no accident at all. In fact, just at the beginning of August, Snapchat had launched the filter "Cartoon face“, With which users enjoyed giving a“ Disney ”look to their pets. Within a few months, the #disneydog hashtag reached 40.9 million views on social platforms. And it's no wonder that the new Frozen-style Snapchat filter has hit again.
After the App released the new “Cartoon 3D Face” filter, which allows users to have the look of the beautiful Disney Princesses, it reached the sixth place among the free apps in the App Store. Indeed, in recent days the trend of cartoon filters is making itself felt more and more. Among the first places of the most downloaded apps there is Voila AI Artist, a platform that transforms users into animated versions of themselves. Unlike Snapchat's filter, Voilà is a real one photo editor. Users just upload a selfie to see what they would look like if they were cartoons. And this was enough to blow the App from 400 downloads in March 2021 to over 10 million in the first two weeks of June.

Considering the success achieved by Voilà AI Artist, it is no wonder that just in these days Snapchat has decided to relaunch its AR filter inspired by the Disney Princesses. What we should ask ourselves instead is whether such a filter is so successful due to the widespread use that is being made of augmented reality, or because of our nostalgia for Disney and Pixar.
