Final Fantasy XIV - How to Unlock Sea Fishing, Sea Fishing Basics

Sea Fishing is unlocked after completing Fisher's Introductory Quest in Limsa Lominsa.

You're reading it correctly: all you need to do is unlock the Fisher Gathering Class in Limsa. Once you've done that and equipped your first fishing rod, head back to the Fisherman's Guild and talk to Fhilsnoe (X: 7.8 Y: 14.5). It will unlock the new sea fishing for you, but you should know that this is not content that you can jump into whenever you want.

Every two hours (Earth Time) you will have a 15 minute window to register with Dryskthota on the lower decks near the Arcanists Guild Aetherite (X; 3.0 Y: 12.7). You can participate as a party (Ocean Fishing supports 24 players), but the party leader must be the one talking to Dryskthota. Whenever the feature is available, the ship icon on the NPC's map adds an exclamation point. If you go solo or with a party of less than eight players, you will be connected with other players. The ship will eventually leave even if you don't reach the 24 player limit, but it will leave earlier once that limit is reached, so get there early.

The timeslot you choose will change the route and arrival time, but speaking with Dryskthota will allow you to “View Navigation Schedule”. You can even set an alarm for the route you want to travel. Once you've got in line and the trip is underway, you'll find yourself participating in a fishing mini-game of sorts.

There are special decoys that can be purchased on the Endeavor (the ship) or from the Merchant and Repairer in the lower decks near Dryskthota (X3.2 Y12.8). These are not needed and other lures can be used, but these specialty lures were built with sea fishing in mind (and allow lower level anglers to grab what they need in the middle of the sea). activity if they forget lures to own them).

The general idea is this: you will stop at key locations and have seven minutes to fish as much as you can. You'll be rewarded with points for each successful catch, and the experience will scale to your level (making this a great way to level Fisher). You can earn bonuses by fulfilling certain conditions - solo or in a group - and this will affect the final rewards upon completion. There will also be glowing "spectral currents" that can be triggered, and for a limited time you can catch more fish (ie rare fish, so patience is best used during these events).

After visiting three locations, the event will end with the final results displayed for all to see, approximately thirty minutes after the start of the trip. The more points you have, the greater your rewards, and any bonuses you earn will be applied to your total (and, if you get more than 10 points in the end, you can earn the shark mount).

Anglers at level 1-49 will get experience, those at level 50-79 will gain experience and the Yellow Gatherer script, and maximum level Anglers will only gain the yellow and white Gatherer scripts (however, all script rewards require completion of the quest Unbearable Tastes). Also note that if you leave Ocean Fishing before completing the event, you will not receive any rewards.

That's all we can say about it. Soak up the sun, catch fish and level this fisherman who has been collecting dust for six years. Mine certainly has….
