Description
Facebook Gaming (Eg Facebook Gameroom) is a free platform that gives access to the entire catalog of Facebook games in your web browser. It is also the interface on which you will be able to follow your favorite players live during lives.
Facebook Gaming for Video Game Streaming lets you access thousands of player-streamed game videos of your favorite games, or lets you stream your own. The service focuses exclusively on mobile games (unlike Twitch or Mixer for example). You can also follow, participate or create tournaments.
Facebook Gaming is available as an online version for web browser or as a mobile application version that you can download for iOS and Android.
Why use Facebook Gaming?
Facebook gaming is an all-in-one interface for Facebook. You can find everything that has to do with games there. You can access it via the online service or via the mobile applications. Note that on the online service, the interface and the content are more complete, especially in terms of games.
Facebook Gaming and video game streaming.
But Facebook gaming is above all a video game streaming service where you can follow your favorite players (called streamers). The videos are available live or later (as in replay). You can subscribe to feeds from your favorite players so you don't miss any of their videos. The videos can be of the picture in picture type: with the player's video inserted in the game video, this allows the player to interact with his followers. During the live video you can of course leave comments in the dedicated thread.
If you too want to participate and broadcast your own videos, nothing could be simpler. You just have to click on the small camera containing an eye, then choose in the list of applications of your device (or in the list of games if you are on the online version), the one you want to stream. And here we go, you are live on the platform.
But that's not all, Facebook Gaming is also a social network, linked to your Facebook account. It allows you to meet and chat with players from all over the world who love the same games as you. You can even create discussion groups. You can even participate in tournaments, or just watch them to cheer on your favorite players. Note the presence of live esports tournament videos.
All the services are free and without advertising, you can however buy "tokens" (the currency of the platform) which will allow you to congratulate the best players during their lives (and Facebook takes a percentage of the amount).
Facebook Gaming is an alternative to Microsoft's Mixer service which closed on July 22, 2021: Mixer shutdown: Microsoft's failure against Amazon and Twitch.
Use Facebook Gaming to play.
And finally the application allows you to play games directly from its interface, without having to install them. For this, it draws from its well-known catalog of games (the famous games that we play directly from Facebook). These games are grouped by categories: simulation, MOBA, role, poker, cards, bingo, action, construction, words, etc. These are all free games (containing in-app purchases).
On the interface of the online service you have access to two types of games: instant games and web games. The first are light games that open quickly, they are games that you can play with your friends, they also indicate the list of people (from your friends) who play them.
For the latter, web games are much heavier complete games. Most of the time, they also exist as a mobile application. If you have the mobile application and it is linked to your Facebook account then your progress in the game is synchronized on all your devices. So if you launch the web game on your PC, then everything you have done will end up on your tablet or smartphone.
Note also that from the interface of the online service you will be able to see the list of games to which your Facebook account is connected and thus launch them live. To do this, simply go to the Your Games tab. When you launch one of these games, it will ask you if you want to recover the game from where you left it on your computer or from the last cloud save (take the most recent).
The games available on the Facebook Gaming mobile app are instant play only. If you want to play the second category of games, web games, you will need to do so from the online service interface or their dedicated application.
What's new in the latest version of Facebook Gaming?
October 2021 marks the merger between Facebook Gameroom, the gaming zone, and Facebook Gaming, the streaming zone. The merger of the two entities allows Facebook to bring together streaming and games in the same place. This new screen fits perfectly into Facebook's modern interface, both in its online service and in its mobile applications.
Note the disappearance of the Facebook Gameroom software for Windows which allowed access to all Facebook games. It is therefore replaced by the new Gaming interface which allows access to the same games and more.
What OS is Facebook Gaming compatible with?
Facebook gaming is available as an online service, it can be opened from any internet browser under any operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux), it just requires an internet connection and you are connected to your Facebook account.
You can also access Facebook gaming directly from your Android or iOS mobile devices (iPhone, iPad). The application provides access to the streaming service and instant games. However, it seems that iOS users cannot yet access instant games from the app.
Since October 2021, Facebook gaming has been integrated into the interface of the Facebook mobile application. Just like the specific application, you can play instant games (except on iOS) and access streaming. For fans, note that the Facebook gaming application has a more suitable interface.
What are the best alternatives to Facebook Gaming?
In the field of video game streaming, the giant Twitch is leading the way. You will not be able to play games there, but on the other hand you will be able to follow some of the most experienced players in the world. In addition, the community part is very complete and will allow you to discuss all possible topics with international users.
If it's not so much streaming as gaming that interests you, then you might want to lean towards Steam. Via its application for Windows, Mac and even Linux, you have access to thousands of games. Some are paid (there are also regular sales), others are free, all categories are represented. However, there is no mobile application here. Steam is supported by a large community of users who can rate games, participate in discussion forums, and more.
In the same idea there is Origin, the dedicated platform of Electronic Arts. While you can also find EA games on Steam, the newer ones are releasing first on Origin. Here too, community functions have been put in place. No free games here.
If you prefer Ubisoft games, you can use Ubisoft Connect, also known as Uplay. The platform allows you to manage your games and participate in the community. Ubisoft games are paid games only.
Not to be left out, Epic Games offers its Epic Games Store with a Launcher that allows you to play all games from the same application. On the practical side, note the presence of free games, such as Fortnite or Rocket League, and interesting sales periods.
Finally in gaming platforms, know that there is also Stadia, the platform launched by Google in 2021. It mainly offers paid games, unless you take a paid subscription and at this time you will have access to a specific free catalog . here nothing to download on your computer since it is a 100% online service, there are also applications for Android and iOS.
