At each launch of a new series of BMW 3 Series and 4 Series, all fans await the arrival of the high-performance M version, They are finally ready for the Italian market BMW M3 e BMW M4 2021, the new sporty versions of the Bavarian sedan and coupe. The BMW 6-cylinder in-line reaches 510 hp, and there is also a version with a manual gearbox. The prices instead exceed the threshold of 100 thousand euros for extreme Competition. Let's find out everything you need to know about the new BMW M3 and BMW M4 2021.
The aesthetic differences with Series 3 and 4: huge grille and a lot of aggression
On an aesthetic level we are facing a revolution. Although sporty and extreme, the sporty versions of the BMW M3 were always very similar to the starting sedan. For the sixth generation of BMW M3, a totally different path was chosen, namely the adoption of the front with double mask of very generous dimensions new 4 Series, shared in full with BMW M4 2021.
A double kidney that has caused much discussion on the "normal" version of the BMW 4 Series, and now also shared with the M3 sedan, which renounces the more classic "minute" double kidney of the other 3 Series. Here, however, the large double kidney seems to work better. It certainly remains huge and stands out a lot, but i “Extensions” of the line of the two trims on the bonnet they help to integrate the drawing much better. The plate then, for the first time perhaps, helps to soften the front a little, perhaps too aggressive without it.
For the rest then the front bumper is equipped with many air intakes designed together with the Motorsport team for the future BMW M4 GT4, and the very low and protruding side skirts remain unchanged. As is now tradition from the BMW M3 E92, then, the roof is made of carbon fiberIn this way, the weight and center of gravity of the two Bavarian sports cars are lowered.
In the tail then we find a very pronounced and defined rear diffuser, as well as the now usual one double pair of central exhausts, this time of even greater dimensions. Other inevitable details for every self-respecting M Car are the increased and split rims in sizes (18 "front and 19" rear as standard, with 19/20 inch torque on request), the "floating" mirrors and huge brake calipers, available in blue, black or red.
The interior of BMW M3 and M4: combine sportiness and elegance
Inside, however, everything remains very similar to the original BMW 3 Series and 4 Series. The steering wheel is larger, with a thicker crown and equipped with two quick keys M1 and M2 for quick selection of your favorite driving modes. The standard seats then are much more containing than the classic BMW seats, on request also available with electrically adjustable carbon fiber shell.
Other small details are the ignition button and painted automatic gearshift paddles red and the digital instrument panel with dedicated M graphics. The interior moldings are then in aluminum as standard, but by choosing the Carbon Pack they become in carbon fiber, as well as many other components of the interior.
The mechanics: 3.0 6-cylinder in-line from 480 to 510 HP, also with manual gearbox
For BMW M3 and BMW M4 2021 aesthetics are certainly important, but we must not forget that every self-respecting M3 makes your heart beat under the hood. And under the long bonnet of both the new borns of the House of Monaco there are novelties and features capable of making every type of enthusiast happy.
As is now customary for the new Ms of recent years, they are available right from the launch two levels of power and nastiness. On the one hand we have the "normal" M3 and M4, and on the other the more powerful and extreme Competition. Let's start immediately with the “smooth” BMW M3 and M4 2021, which require a few sacrifices.
The starting engine for both is the same, and luckily, we add. It is in fact a symbolic engine of the House of the Helix, a 3.0 six-cylinder in-line twin-turbo petrol engine, Named S58. This 6 in line, obviously petrol, delivers in the classic version of M3 and M4 480 hp at 6.250 rpm and 550 Nm of torque between 2.650 and 6.130 rpm. An engine that on paper proves capable of pushing even at high revs, and of offering a lot of back even at the lowest revs.
The real surprise, however, lies in the broadcast. BMW M3 and BMW M4 2021 are in fact available as standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox old school. BMW nevertheless does not abandon the clutch and gear lever, and offers its most hardcore customers the maximum analog driving pleasure. Don't worry, if you want an automatic gearbox on the M3 "base" as well, it's available on request.
The gearbox, however, admits a bit of technology, since it offers the automatic shotgun, while both steering and suspension are adjustable. The electronic power steering is equipped with variable power assistance, while the suspensions are le M Adaptive Suspension, capable even of adjusting the response of the individual front and rear axles separately.
BMW M3 and BMW M4 2021 Competition: 510 HP, automatic transmission and… all-wheel drive
All this is shared by both the normal version of BMW M3 and M4 and by the super sports versions, the Competiton. These are the more extreme and dedicated versions to the maximum performance of the M3 and M4 range, with an injection of power and even more hardcore details.
The 3.0 S58 engine goes from 480 to 510 hp, with the torque that jumps from 550 to 650 Nm. However, the rev band becomes narrower, from 2.550 to 5.500 rpm. The cultural, then it is no longer manual, replaced by the tried and tested 8-speed ZF automatic, noto in BMW-ese come Steptronic.
Aesthetically, the 10 cm diameter exhausts are unchanged, but the rims switch to 19/20 inch torque, and the brakes are also larger. On request it is also possible to mount carboceramic discs M, as well as a great new novelty never seen on all M3s: all-wheel drive.
This generation of M3, known as the G80, will be remembered as the first to no longer offer exclusive rear-wheel drive. If the M3 and M4 rear offer a self-locking differential and the DSC traction control system revised by the M department, the BMW M3 and M4 2021 Competiton from the summer of this year can be ordered with M xDrive drive already seen on M5.
It is a system capable of guaranteeing maximum grip in conditions of slippery asphalt or rain, but does not forget the pleasure of driving. This is indeed possible via the infotainment system to exclude traction fromfront axle and distribute 100% traction exclusively to the rear. Quiet friends who love drift, even on the all-wheel drive M3 and M4 Competition it will be possible to perform in real M Car traverses.
The performance of BMW M3 and BMW M4 2021: the Competition drops to under 4 seconds
We have left the performances for last, because you know, sweet things must be saved for the end. And here it is very sweet things. The two sports cars from Monaco not only share the grille, but also the performance, identical between the 4-door and the coupe.
Let's start with the BMW M3 and M4 2021 with the 480 HP engine. This version, equipped with rear-wheel drive only and the 6-speed manual gearbox with Launch Control, covers 0-100 km / h acceleration in 4,2 seconds, a tenth better than the previous F80. The versions Competition but they do even better, burning the 0-100 in 3,9 seconds. All this "only" as far as rear-wheel drive is concerned. We expect versions equipped with M xDrive can still lower an already exceptional time.
The maximum speed is as per tradition self-limited at 250 km / h. However, by purchasing theM Driver's Package from 2.250 euros, it is possible to bring your own M3 up to 290 km / h. Speaking of packages, in addition to the aforementioned carbon ceramic brakes, there are in the immense BMW price list two very intriguing Packs.
The first is the Carbon Package from 4.800 euros, which offers the carbon coating of various external and internal components. For those who want even more, then, they are available at 3.900 euros i carbon shell seats with electric adjustments. The second package is the M Race Track package, much more expensive, from 16.800 euros. This monster package, however, includes the Carbon Pack, the bucket seats, the carbon ceramic brakes, the Head-Up display and other accessories perfect for those who want to bring their BMW M3 or M4 2021 on the track.
The last aspect to be analyzed is the weight. Despite several carbon and aluminum components, the BMW M3 and M4 2021 are not exactly Lotus. Indeed: the mass of the two sports is grown to exceed 1700 kg, with the Competition versions with automatic transmission reaching 1730 kg. A weight that is not exactly a feather: will it still be able to give the emotions of a real M?
The price of BMW M3 and BMW M4 2021: it starts from 95.900 euros
With this weight question we analyze the last important aspect of the BMW M3 and M4 2021, the price. CAs for the weight, this component also swelled: the M3 and M4 versions in fact start at just under 100.000 euros, 95.900 the sedan and 96.500 the M4 coupe.
The Competition versions, on the other hand, exceed 100.000 euros, with the M3 Competition offered for 100.400 euros and the M4 for 101.000 euros.. This without then going to draw from the endless BMW price lists, which have always been a cross and delight of the customers of the Star. Despite the price and weight a little higher than we hoped, BMW M3 and M4 2021 caught our full attention. The much discussed aesthetics on these supersport versions find their home, giving a menacing and aggressive look to the two sports cars. The S58 engine is a guarantee of a true BMW M soundtrack and excellent response, while we are very curious to see how the Competiton versions equipped with all-wheel drive will behave.
Finally, with the presence of the manual gearbox, BMW wants to declare that still believes in the purest and most analogical pleasure of driving, to that motto that has always been the essence of the Bavarian House. We can't wait to see these two legendary sportsmen at work. And you? What do you think? Are you convinced by BMW M3 and BMW M4 2021?
