Google Maps
Google Maps is probably known for its vast online content network. However, not everyone knows that within its settings, it is possible download portions of maps to always have them at hand and offline. Obviously, all absolutely free and unlimited. HERE WeGo: city navigator
Certainly a very valid alternative as it is "young". HERE WeGo actively entered the smartphone navigator market some time later than Google Maps, but it still managed to attract a substantial slice of users all over the world. Furthermore, the map download functions are certainly immediate and very simple for anyone.
- Click on the icon at the top left to open the side menu
- Continue with "Download maps"
- Scegliere "Get maps now" to select the areas to be made offline on your device
MAPS.ME - Offline Maps, GPS
MAPS.ME is certainly the least known app on the list and for this reason it could be an interesting discovery. Its peculiarity is certainly the direct contact with “OpenStreetMap”, which is a very reliable open source map update service and often compared to Google Maps. This means that every day, all users enrolled in the aforementioned program will be able to update the maps and make all the information on the app always in real time.

- Search for the name of the country to download offline and click on the arrow icon to its right
Sygic GPS Navigator & Maps
When it comes to navigation, Sygic's app immediately comes to mind, which is one of the most downloaded and complete in the App Store. The latter offers a lot of 3D maps detailed, free and above all even offline. There is also a paid version, but no purchase is required to download the maps. Furthermore, all information will be updated in real time, thanks above all to the timely updates (always free) released by the developers.
Apple Maps
Finally, we close with the app as standard on any iPhone and iPad. We are obviously talking about Apple's map service, which has been at the center of iOS screens for several years now. This is definitely not the best service on the list, but it still represents one valid free and immediate alternative.
In this case, however, the download options will be slightly more hidden, since there is no reference key. To download a map, you will need to temporarily connect to an internet connection in the area to be downloaded, open the app "Maps" and wait for it to appear (it is also possible to enlarge the area by zooming out with two fingers). Once the map is visible, simply disable the connection and it will remain available until the app is closed from multitasking.
