When does the Halloween event begin?
The Halloween Animal Crossing New Horizons event will officially begin at 17 p.m. on Saturday, October 31 and end at midnight. However, if it hasn't started yet, you should be prepared. What you'll want to do is grow pumpkins and buy candy from Nook's Cranny. You can only buy one candy per day, so try to go to the store whenever you can and grab a piece for 120 bells. On Halloween, you're much more likely to get candy than in the real world, so don't worry if you haven't refueled yet. You can read more about how to get candy and what they do here. Then at 17pm on October 31st, just head to your island and Jack should have arrived to kick off this Halloween event the right way.
What to do during the Halloween event
The Halloween Animal Crossing New Horizons event is all about getting all the items, craft recipes, and costumes you can. Much of this is offered periodically before the start of the event, so we won't bother with all of that. Once Jack arrives, things shift up a gear, especially with the candy, items, and DIY recipes. The first thing to do when you start the Halloween event is find Jack and talk to him. He'll break everything down for you, but in short, you'll want to get him some candy, especially the lollipops you receive. He will then give you a DIY costume, item or recipe. You can follow all the DIY items and recipes here to make sure you have them all. Once you've done that, just make sure you have enough pumpkins to make them all.
How to get more candy and what to do with lollipops
So candy is the key, but what if you haven't collected enough? Well, it's Halloween after all, so why not do some tricks or treats? All of your fellow villagers have some candy for you, so walk around and chat with them while wearing a costume. Some will be at home and should give you candy right away. Others will be walking around and may not want to part with their candy for just anyone. Fortunately, you can trick them a bit by getting the Jack costume from Jack himself. By wearing this, almost all the villagers will give you candy right away. Also, be sure to switch to Resident Services or your house to do some sort of reset to try and get more of the same characters.
And if one of them gives you a lollipop, you're in luck. Bring this straight to Jack and you will receive one of the rarest and most exclusive items in the Halloween Event Set. These should include the spooky cart and the spooky wand, which you'll definitely want for your collection.
