Here is our review of Hyper scape, the new video game by Ubisoft that wants to impose itself in the scenario of Battle-Royale commanded by titles such as Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone ed Apex Legends.
The game was shown to the public during the latest Ubisoft Forward, the presentation event of the software house's next video games and is now available in Open Beta mode. Hyper Scape: our review
Hyper Scape is a first-person Battle-Royale set in an urban area with futuristic features. We are in fact in the 2054, an era in which technology has become an integral part of people's lives. Cybernetics, however, still remains a prerogative of the wealthiest people while the rest of the population lives in disadvantaged conditions. In a society where social differences are so stark, a virtual video game which allows everyone to gain fame and success. It is, in fact, Hyper Scape, an alternative reality created by Prisma Dimension, an influential corporation that runs tournaments and death throes.
In this early life phase of the game the narrative elements end here but albeit the plot never represents the central element of video games of this type, the idea of a background (even if small and unoriginal) is not displeased. This is therefore the reason why 100 players they must compete for victory in a map full of details, weapons to acquire and challengers to beat. There is currently only one mode available which it can be played alone or in teams of 2 or 3 players. Once launched from a command center, the team must choose a point on the map to start their climb to the top spot.
Once the game has started, we will have a series of avatar, male and female, to choose and customize. The character does not have a real personality or peculiar characteristics but represents a simple "empty" container that represents our alter-ego during the games.

The world of Hyper Scape
La game map it is made up of seven different urban districts. Some of these are "hot areas“, With a richer loot and therefore with a greater attractiveness from the other players. If you choose to start the game in these areas, be prepared to fight hard early in the game.
At the beginning of the match we will only have a melee weapon available, which is not very effective for the battles required by the game. Fortunately, the map is littered with a slew of firearms and upgrades that will help us survive for as long as possible. L'arsenal of weapons it is varied and balanced. We find in fact more classic weapons such as a shotgun, semi-automatic submachine gun or sniper rifle, but also more particular weapons such as a shotgun capable of generating a energy projectile with area damage. One of the features that differentiates Hyper Scape from other Battle-Royale is the ability to upgrade your weapon. In fact, it will be enough to find and collect another model of the same weapon that you are using to improve it. Every weapon has indeed 4 levels which boost magazine capacity, damage, load speed, and so on.
In addition to weapons we also have available different abilities or hacks also scattered around the map. As for weapons, we will be able to collect a maximum of 2 hacks that will allow us to acquire incredible skills. We can indeed become invisible, create gigantic walls with which to defend ourselves from enemy bullets, become a dangerous metal ball and much more. Skills can also be upgraded with the exact same weapon system. The upgrade obviously varies from the hack you have and can involve a cooldown reduction, side effects and much more.
What sets Hyper Scape apart from other Battle-Royale?
The weapon and hack upgrade system is not the only special feature of this game. We find many small elements that give us some delicious variations to the classic gameplay of Battle-Royale, here are what!
Verticality
The game is characterized by a great attention to verticality of the map. Taking advantage of the setting, which is distinguished by the presence of large architectures and tall buildings, the game map also develops in height. In fact, we have at our disposal a series of platforms and a hack with cui jump to immeasurable heights to escape an enemy attack or pounce on him.
While this element may be complex and confusing for some players at first, it manages to add a new level of spatiality.

The rebirth system
An element that has pleasantly impressed us and the way in which it is possible return to battle after being eliminated by enemies. Typically in Battle-Royale (those that allow respawn), it is up to surviving teammates to bring allies back into play. In Hyper Scape the work is shared.
Once deleted, in fact, we are able to control a ghost of our alter-ego that cannot fight or be seen by enemies. In this ethereal guise, our task will be to find the resuscitation stations where the members of the other teams have fallen. Once the location has been identified, it will be up to the members of our squad alive to activate it and bring us back into the game.
It is one of the few cases of team video games in which, after death, one is somehow active member of the team. This further increases the importance of team play and communication for even greater engagement.

No more ring
An element that unites all Battle-Royale is the presence of a anello or a perimeter of the playing area which, with the passage of time, it shrinks more and more, forcing the players into an area that is gradually smaller and smaller. In Hyper Scape this feature is present but in a more than original way. The map is in fact shrunk to areas that, slowly, begin to disappear and become inaccessible.
Pixel by pixel, certain areas crumble, forcing you into an ever smaller but not so limited map as with the classic ring structure. Towards the end of the game we will still find ourselves having to face many enemies in a reduced section but the way we get there has proved compelling and interesting.
Random events
During the game it may happen that you see the start of random events involving all players. These events usually last a few seconds and offer interesting gameplay variations. Events can involve drastic gravity reduction, infinite ammo, or the ability to see all remaining players on the map.
This function acquires a greater value thanks to aextension present on Twitch, the video game streaming platform. With this extension the viewers of the channel can in fact vote on the event to be made active at that moment within the game so as to help (or not!) your favorite streamer. Hyper Scape review: final opinion
Hyper Scape managed to hit us in many ways. The novelties in terms of gameplay have been joined by a fascinating setting and a potential to be discovered. Noteworthy is also the game graphics which, although not an excellence in any field, has its own identity, pleasant and fluid. Currently the game, which we remember is still in its version Open Beta, has some stability flaws that we hope will be reduced in the future.
We would have liked to see some elements of the plot in-game or have to deal with real characters instead of avatars without souls, but Ubisoft clearly wanted to focus mainly on Gameplay mechanics.
Hyper Scape's future in the Battle-Royale scenario is still uncertain. Its success will mainly depend on the attention of the production company regarding the new features that will be added, the stability of the game and the support it will receive over the years. What is certain is that the elements for a successful new competition are all there.
