The documentary directed by Bob Smeaton won a Emmy Award for the unique and touching portrait he paints in 90 minutes. Traces the history of the musician since when his father bought him an acoustic guitar for $ 5 until it rang the American anthem in Woodstock. Featuring archival videos and images and interviews with friends and family, the documentary shows a young Hendrix playing alongside Little Richard or Wilson Pickett. Spotted by Keith Richards' girlfriend in Greenwich Village, he is introduced to Chas Chandler of The Animals in 1966. From there begins a story with the backdrop of a London that never sleeps, student protests and the formation of his band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
After taking psychedelic rock-blues to unprecedented heights, at the age of 27 he died and became a legend. This is Bob Smeaton's third documentary dedicated to the guitarist. In 1998 he won a Grammy with “Jimi Hendrix: Band of Gypsies". While in 2010 he celebrated the fortieth anniversary of his death with "Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child".
