Apple's first smartphone wasn't the best around, at least in terms of functionality. It did not record video, it did not allow the use of third party apps, it did not support MMS or 3G networks. But the Cupertino-based company already knew that innovation is not so important as simplicity of use. He was already aware then that for most users every aspect of the iPhone would be revolutionary, for the simple fact that he had never used any other smartphone before. Because no one was as simple and convenient to use as the first iPhone.
The numbers proved Steve Jobs (and the hundreds of people who worked with him) right. In the first 30 hours, Apple sold 270 smartphones, reaching the first million in 74 days. For comparison, it took two years to sell the first million iPods.
