Freeing up space on the iPhone is one of those things that sooner or later every owner of the Apple smartphone will have to deal with.
No matter what size of iPhone you choose, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and even 128GB… sooner or later you will need to free up space on your iPhone.
Let's see together 10 ways to free up space on the iPhone in a simple way. The proposed methods are simple tricks and phone settings and do not require advanced changes. They work with the current version of iOS 9.
How to free up space on iPhone in 10 ways
1 - Delete Apps that are taking up space on iPhone
The easiest and most obvious way is to free up space on the iPhone deleting applications or games that we have downloaded from the store and that we may no longer use. You can compare the list of your apps with the ones we recommend in Best Games and Apps for iPhone.
First let's open Settings -> Generali and choose the menu item I use space and iCloud. Let's leave out the bottom part on iCloud settings (Apple's "cloud" that keeps our files online on the internet) and let's focus on the first part inthecated by the name archive.
We select Manage Space.
The Apps are listed in descentheng order based on space occupation. We identify the ones that we don't use and that we can delete to free up physical memory space on the iPhone.
How to delete apps on iPhone
Return to the main screen and make a long tap on any of the application icons. The icons will start shaking. Tap on the X at the top left and confirm the deletion.
2 - Delete files and documents inside the App
If you do not want to completely delete an application but you know that it takes up a lot of space on the iPhone, you can try to delete some of the files and documents managed within it and that you have saved in previous sessions.
As in the previous point, open Settings -> Generali and then choose I use space and iCloud. Now select any application to get information on the data stored in it.
The fundamental voice is now Documents and data. Compare it with the real space occupied by the application and inthecated with Dimensions app.
Once you have identified the application that takes up a lot of space with its data, the process to free up some space is to start the app and find a way inside it to delete temporary data or document files that you are not using. Normally there is an item in the menu App settings itself with a voice (example) Delete downloaded files / temporary.
3 - Cleaning the Messages App
If you have followed the usual menu (Settings -> General -> Use space and iCloud) you will have noticed that much of the space is also occupied by the application Messages. The reason is simple: every exchange of text and images that occurs on the phone between you and your contacts is preserved.
One way to free up space is to keep messages for only a limited period of time. By default, all messages will be kept forever. To change this behavior follow these steps:
- Go in Settings and then Messages
- Scroll until you find the entry Keep the messages and select it
- Choose from the menu to keep messages for a time of 30 days.
4 - Clear internet browsing cache
Using the iPhone for navigation on the internet with Safari or Chrome you will surely have accumulated some information saved in cache (images, files, cookies, etc). You can remove them and free up space on your device by following these instructions
Safari:
- Go in Settings and then Safari
- Scroll to find the entry Cancella date and timeline and select it. Confirm on Cancella date and timeline
Chrome:
- Tap on the three dots at the top right and choose Settings
- Select Privacy at the bottom of the menu
- Choose the last item Clear browsing data
- Check the box Cached images and files
- Press on Clear browsing data
5 - Clear Reatheng List
It is very convenient to use the Safari reatheng list; allows you to read web pages even when we are offline. This feature is one of those that leads to a large occupation of space.

- Open Settings -> Generali -> I use space and iCloud
- In the All Apps menu, scroll to find Safari
- Tap su Mothefication at the top right and then on the "-" button next to Offline reatheng list
6 - Remove copies of books downloaded to iBooks
This is a very simple procedure that will save you a lot of space if you usually buy and read books through the Apple iBooks application.
The books you buy are always available for a new download and, once read, there is no need to keep them on your smartphone.
Then enter iBooks and tap on the minus Select top right. Choose the books you want to delete with a tap on each of them. Choose the Delete item to free up the space on the iPhone.
7 - Disable Photo Stream
One of the sources of greatest occupation of space is undoubtedly represented by photos. If you have noticed the presence of an album Streaming Photo, you're using a feature to automatically send photos to other Apple devices you own. This album that is created can contain a maximum of 1000 photos and has a space occupation of 1GB.
To eliminate this feature and free up space, go to Settings -> Photo and camera and turn off the voice My Photo Stream.
8 - iCloud Photo Library
Use the function ICloud Photo Library, will allow you to save a large amount of space on the iPhone and at the same time will allow you to access your photos from all devices connected to iCloud.
To activate the function, go to Settings -> Photo and camera and enable the voice ICloud Photo Library.
The phone will keep copies of the photos in a lower resolution and the original photos will be uploaded online to yours iCloud space. 9 - Disable HDR copying of images
If you use HDR mode frequently, you may have noticed that by default, the iPhone camera retains the original copy of the image along with the HDR version. Instead of manually deleting the original copy, you can turn off the save and keep only the HDR version.
To do this, follow these simple steps:
- Go in Settings and then Photo and camera
- Scroll down and thesable the entry Keep normal photo
10 - Remove copies of the Quick Slide Show
Burst mode is a feature that if you hold down the shutter button longer with the application Camera, you will have a series of photos taken in rapid sequence and not a single photo.
To free up space and keep only one copy of the photos taken in this mode, you have to manually go photo by photo and choose Select ...
Scroll through the sequence of photos and select only one. When you have chosen, tap on end top right.
Choose at this point Keep only your favorite one.
