Windows - Error loading RunDLL (rundll32.exe)

RunDLL loading error

Windows displays a message similar to this:

RUNDLL error loading THE MODULE SPECIFIED IS NOT FOUND.

This problem is related to the loading at Windows startup of a program that no longer exists or that is incorrect. To remove this error,

  • click on the start menu,
  • then run and type the following command:

    msconfig

  • In the startup tab, uncheck the line related to the file,
  • then click on apply.
  • On restart, a new window will open indicating that Windows is in selective startup. All you have to do is check the box not to display this message again and validate.

RunDLL introuvable

Windows displays an error message similar to the following:

Windows cannot find C: WindowsRundll32.exe. Make sure you entered the name correctly and try again.

This issue is related to the deletion of the c: windowssystem32rundll32.exe file by a third-party program (usually a Windows Appearance Customizer program).

Rundll32 has stopped working (Vista)

When opening videos, Vista opens a "Windows Host Process" window indicating that Rundll32 has stopped working.
To correct the problem, do the following:

  • Go to "Control Panel"
  • Folders option
  • Click on the "Display" tab
  • Check the box "Always show icons, never thumbnails"

In reality, it is the thumbnails of the films that are of concern to Vista.
