For a limited time, you can throw coal at other Fortnite players. Although they are common, you will not find them in common chests. You need to search specific locations on the map to locate these items and add them to your inventory.
There are two ways to locate coal in Fortnite: Pulled Coolers and Gifts.

When you find a Lump of Coal, you should receive five Lump of Coal for each piece you pick up.
You have to find coal because a Winterfest challenge requires you to damage an opponent with it. To use it as a weapon you have to treat the item like a grenade, no it doesn't remove them, but it does 20 damage.
