There are a lot of terms to throw in Death Stranding. For those who have played Hideo Kojima's previous franchise, Metal Gear, the vast amount of unique vocabulary that is spreading is commonplace. However, those who take their first steps into the world of Kojima may not know what to expect. One term that comes up often is Void Out. The word is tied to the world of Death Stranding, and it's an important topic for everyone to understand, especially Sam.
What's empty in Death Stranding?
There are a handful of people in the Death Stranding world who can return to live. These people are called returnees and this allows them to recover from the dead by finding their bodies in the afterlife. However, those who cannot return from the dead remain dead. But if a person is killed by a BT, they will be burnt or cause a Void Out.
Essentially, a vacuum occurs when the deceived individual's body begins to deteriorate and become that black ichor if it doesn't go to an incinerator. If they cannot be cremated within a reasonable time, they will explode and cause this huge black crater to form. It's not a grenade explosion, notice. A Void Out has the potential to level a small town and destroy everything around it. This is why when a porter carries a body in front of an incinerator, it is imperative that he do so quickly.
Players are lucky enough to see an empty exit for the first hour or so of play when Sam also visits the other side. Sam is forced to help a small team deliver a body to an incinerator, but they are ambushed by BTs and a crash. Shortly after Sam returns among the dead, there is a huge crater where things were located, showing the devastation of a Void Out.
Later in the game, players have a chance to cause a Void Out by dying from a BT. When they come back, and they come back from the dead, there will be a large massive crater nearby with a large air force coming out of the middle. Players cannot access this area due to a lot of things pushing them back and they can see debris coming up from the center.
For those who want to avoid creating a zero exit, be sure to stay on your toes when facing BTs. These supernatural creatures are deadly. If you cause an undo, you can see that the aftereffects remain on the card. It leaves a dark stain where it happened, you will always remember where it happened
Good luck with Death Stranding, porters, and make sure you stay prepared on your trip. You never know what you're going to do when you go out to make deliveries.
