Fortnite's The Device event is gone and gone, and what a roller coaster it was. As always, it all started with players loading into games and watching the timer countdown, and when that counter hit zero, nothing happened at first. Soon after, large pylons stretch up and out of the water surrounding the Agency. After they were all extended out of the water, the Doomsday device emerged from the ruins of the Agency, sending interconnected energy beams to each pylon.
What happened next was quite astonishing, as the energy beams pushed towards the Storm Dome, pushing it back across the island. Then weird stuff as players were teleported to a weird office, with some top secret files on the table in front of them. Voices could be heard through the walls, but it was impossible to hear what they had said.
It looked like everything had been done and dusted off, but the storm returned with vengeance. Once again, the pylons fired energy into the Storm Dome, pushing it back, and players were again teleported to a strange dimension. This time Jonezy, fully dressed in costume, walked into the room and was clearly shocked to see the player. "Wait, can you hear us?" He asked before the players were again put back into the gaming world where something had drastically changed.
The storm was gone, replaced instead by a towering wall of water on all sides. If you get into a game right now, you will be able to witness it for yourself, as the storm is gone and only the huge wall of water remains. So it looks like the players were right and the map is now somewhat flooded. The wall of water is held back by the timer, just like the storm, but when it catches you, you'll have to try and swim quickly to get to safety.
Everything is gearing up for what happens in Season 3, and players are now more excited than ever to witness the changes coming to the game this week.
As to what all this means, there are already a lot of theories doing the trick. Our theory is that the world of Fortnite is about to build on the idea of a multidimensional existence, where different versions of the universe exist side by side, and the Midas device has connected our reality to a new. It's probably nowhere near the mark, but it's certainly fun to speculate.
