There are several online services that allow you to send large files for free and WeTransfer has established itself as one of the most popular. The platform has an ergonomic interface and is fairly easy to use. You can send up to 2 GB of data at a time, which should be more than enough for most needs. But it is always possible to go further.
The most generous mail services do not allow sending more than 50MB of data per attachment as is the case with Gmail. When the need comes to send large files, you have to turn to specialized platforms such as WeTransfer which is free and does not require the creation of an account. Files can be sent to 20 recipients at a time, with an email notification containing the download link.
Send large files with WeTransfer
In its free version, WeTransfer allows send files whose total size does not exceed 2 GB. You can add several files at the same time, whether they are photos, videos, documents or archives (Zip, Rar). In the event that the overall weight exceeds the 2 GB limit, it is still possible to ship in multiple waves. Although, the paid formula of WeTransfer raises the limit to 20 GB. But do not forget that files over 4 GB are impossible to copy on media formatted in Fat 32.
To send large files, first go to the WeTransfer.com site. In the box on the left of the interface, everything is presented in an intuitive way:
- Click on the "+" icon and add your files from local drive or external media
- Enter the recipient's addresses in the field just below, then yours in the next field
- A little message to pass along with the files? Enter it in the last field then click on the Transfer button
If you prefer to share the files directly as a link, just click on the icon with three dots to the left of the “Upload” button. The default option is "e-mail". Check the "link" box then click on the “Download” button to retrieve a URL directing to the download page. Finally, the files are only kept for 7 days on WeTransfer's servers. After this period, they are automatically deleted. The recipients should therefore not hang around too much.
