If you have an Android device (mobile or tablet), you already know all the things you can do with it. Rooting your phone will allow you to do all sorts of things you've always wanted to do on a smartphone. Another interesting thing you could do is to use yours Android device such as a webcam. Yes, exactly. You no longer need a webcam to connect to your computer, you can use your Android mobile as a webcam.
In order to make your Android device like a webcam, you will need an app called IP webcam. As the name suggests, the application allows you to access the device's camera using the computer's IP protocol. You don't need additional accessories. All you need to have is a computer with a web browser, an Android device, and two of these must be connected to the same WiFi network.
How to turn Android device into a webcam
1. Download the IP Webcam application from the Google Play Store.
2. Launch the application on your device.
3. Unlike most applications you've come across, this one uses a different type of user interface. The first screen is actually the “Settings” page where you can configure all the webcam settings. The configuration options available are innumerable; just click on them to read the details.
4. Scroll to the bottom where you will see an option that says "Start Server." Click on it and the webcam server will start which will be accessible directly from your computer's browser.
5. As soon as the server starts, it will immediately start streaming the camera content. Along with this you should see an IP address on the screen.
6. Now open a browser on your computer. Type the IP address noted in the previous step and press Enter.
7. The following screen is where you will be able to see your camera. On this page, choose “Browser” from the video renderer section and “HTML5 Wav” from the audio player section.
8. You should now be able to see the camera directly in your browser. Well done!
